Okay, I know a lot of people like to rubber neck when they see an accident-it's a natural human reaction, so I thought I'd show you guys a few cars worth rubber necking ;)

All of these wrecks were brought into our salvage yard at the auction I work for by me or one of my coworkers

I hate picking up stuff like this :( Too depressing

Thought this one would make a great trail rig, but even in its rolled condition it still went for well over $2K

Woah, and to think, most of the people in those died.

Ouch:eek:

I once saw a first gen at an auction that had been flipped onto its roof like Jimabenas, and when they hauled it through the auction lane on a flat deck, it was RUNNING....

The tires were all flat, most of the windows were gone, doors sprung, seats messed up.....but it npurred like a kitten. I probably shoulda picked it up cheap for a spare drivetrain :kicks self:

how about one time I was driving on a back road and a saw a FREE sign on a clean first gen with no rust. I was by myself but contenplated dragging it down the road solo:confused: I went back later and it was gone. Wish I would have gave the guy $20 to hold it. Oh well, that would NEVER happen again.

some of those look kinda familiar.. one of my fav. things to do is poke around at a salvage yard. One X there (98+ sport) hit SOMETHING.. I have no idea what.. but whatever it was.. it was level with the windsheild.. it scrapped the top of the hood and got worse ending in a U shaped A pillar. I didn't see any stains inside or anything, so I guess the drivfer lived.. althoughj I dont see how.

The trucks been there a while.. I wanted to buy the radio bezel off it, but the thing was dryrotted :(

yard cars can make you fee good.... or bad.. about the quality of vehicle you're in. My father was disturbed when we saw more than 3 towncars of the year they own burned to the ground in this same yard. We were somewhat releived at the damage on the Xs tho.. most of em were banged up, but not beyond recognition.

4 star rating all the way around from what I've read online, so I guess thats prertty darn good. so much for the "suvs are unsafe" stereotype from the general public :)

Actually, the only one that had a fatality was the Lumina, and it was the woman driving's fault...she was yapping on her cell and ran under one rig, which crashed into another..I was told that when the tires of the wreck are spray painted, it had a fatality-but I don't know if that's true or not.

Mbrooks-AAAAAAAAAAAAA! That is a nightmare come true! Damn! I'd cause a wreck if I passed an X with a *free* sign on it..!

We get in ALL kinds of wrecks that should probably be crushed rather than parted out to dealers. Last week we got in a perfectly fine Corolla....that had had the body of a murdered female security officer stuffed in the trunk for three months this past summer  I won't go near it, it smells so bad

There's a lot of carBQ's that come in too, mostly GM's for some strange reason...I'll try and take some more pics of the outrageous ones!

:Kicks Mbrooks420 in the ass instead: :D

MBrooks420<-----deserves it. I imagine the trans went for 2nd or 3rd time and they didn't want it. It prob. didn't have a motor either but the body was complete and had no holes, maybe a little suface rust, but I didn't see any. I should have strapped it real close to my truck and just towed it 100 yards down the road and put the 4 ways on.:( Just another stupid thing I have done. I'm sure there will be more.

I too used to work recovery in Miami, and it is humbling to see some of the perdicaments people get them selves into. As far as fatalities, I'm sure spas would agree, you can smell death when you arrive, that,s the most disturbing smell in the world.

I hear ya..No one at work will touch that car, and the co-worker who brought it home lost his cookies twice on the side of the road. Kind of funny side note, a state trooper pulled over to see if he was okay and didn't believe the story my co-worker told him, so he decided to have a look for himself- lost his cookies too!

Wildest death story I've heard was about two gay guys from Florida who stole a Mustang GT convertable and made it all the way to Virginia a few years ago (I forget what other crime they did, but I know the police were after them), only to nail a brick wall head on at 100mph...My company got the car and what was left of them in it. I only remember this because I wanted the Gt symbol but I was warned not to touch it because one of the guys apparently had AIDS :( (This was when I was delivering Airborne express to my now current employer)

The worst accident I worked was one in Ft. Lauderdale back in 91, a guy was traveling on i-95 and lost control, swerving into the median concrete wall. This caused him to swerve back, and turn his car up on its driver side sliding down the interstate. He wasn't wearing a seat belt, and his head was in between the top of door and the road:eek: needless to say he ground his head off at about 75 miles per hour, never had a chance, this was a solo accident, and one I will never forget.

Dead bodies in the trunk for 3 months? Damn thats why i hate driving rentals and buying used cars. You never know what the hell that car has been through.

There used to be a website made by a tow truck operator. He had loads of shots like that. Pretty amazing to see aht can happen to a vehicle.

That Mitsubishi is a good example... I can't even imagine ripping a car in half! Let alone surviving the impact.

The scariest/saddest accident I ever saw was about 5 years ago. It was about 9pm on a Friday night and I was at my girlfriend's (now wife) mom's house. We were thinkin of what we were gonna do that night, and hear this screech that lasts about 10 seconds............then BOOM. Grab a phone and head down the street. Now, the main road through the neighborhood was a 35mph zone seperated by a mediun that contains a 20' wide "valley" with a drainage ditch at the bottom. We get to the main road and see what is left of a Supra mangled in a tree. I pull our truck up so that the headlights are shining on the scene, and the first thing we noticed was that the driver's door was open and no one was inside. I make my way down the little hill with two other guys guys that showed up about the same time we did. We take a look in the ditch, and there is a body upside down in a pool of blood. We grab him, pull him out (as carefully as we could), but he was dead. None of us knew CPR or anything...........I STIIL FEEL REAL BAD FOR THAT TO THIS DAY!

When said and done, the dead guy was a 17 year old kid. He had been going close to 75mph, lost it around a curve, and slammed directly into a 3' diameter tree. BUT, that part didn't kill him..............he either got out on his own, or the door flew open and he fell out.......either way, he ended up in the ditch and drowned.

I'm 18 and glad I don't have a fancy sports car. I can't do tight turns or race from stop lights etc in an Explorer. I know if I had just about any car I would be driving a lot crazier then I do now w/ my ex. There is no way a 17 year old should be allowed to drive a Supra.. even if daddy says ok.

Having said that though, I know there are some kids who goto the advanced driving schools, and learn how to handle the cars they are in. I think this should be mandatory just to get a license for any car. If there was a state funded driving school that was cheap, (private ones are like $2,000+) that taught me how do handle a car in all types of conditions / situations I would sign up in a heartbeat.

Driving schools here in Virginia teach you NOTHING. When I went through the school we didn't even go on a road where the speed limit was above 40mph. Sorry to get off on a rant here, but they keep making laws to make the driving age older, etc when they just need to be making those who get licenses better drivers.

Amen, brother!! I don't know what's worse, the driving classes or the instructors...neither teaches a fledgling driver ANYTHING.

On that note, after seeing all the rental wrecks that come through the auction, I say that if you cause an accident, and then you up and wreck the rental too, your license ought to be revoked. Permanently.
