The scariest/saddest accident I ever saw was about 5 years ago. It was about 9pm on a Friday night and I was at my girlfriend's (now wife) mom's house. We were thinkin of what we were gonna do that night, and hear this screech that lasts about 10 seconds............then BOOM. Grab a phone and head down the street. Now, the main road through the neighborhood was a 35mph zone seperated by a mediun that contains a 20' wide "valley" with a drainage ditch at the bottom. We get to the main road and see what is left of a Supra mangled in a tree. I pull our truck up so that the headlights are shining on the scene, and the first thing we noticed was that the driver's door was open and no one was inside. I make my way down the little hill with two other guys guys that showed up about the same time we did. We take a look in the ditch, and there is a body upside down in a pool of blood. We grab him, pull him out (as carefully as we could), but he was dead. None of us knew CPR or anything...........I STIIL FEEL REAL BAD FOR THAT TO THIS DAY!
When said and done, the dead guy was a 17 year old kid. He had been going close to 75mph, lost it around a curve, and slammed directly into a 3' diameter tree. BUT, that part didn't kill him..............he either got out on his own, or the door flew open and he fell out.......either way, he ended up in the ditch and drowned.
