School me on 5R55E shift theory.

i stumbled across this thread and since it was mainly speculation in here i figured i'd post my .02

you can swap the 97 ecu in with only a few wiring changes, the problem lies in the calibration on the ecu. The 97 ecu may have PATS, in order to disable pats for the ecu to operate you'll need to reprogram the ecu to bypass pats. This is fairly straight forward to do but some ecu's aren't as well supported as others. With that said I would recommend a 99 v6 explorer ecu, that ecu can be reprogrammed to disable PATS as well as everything else that needs to be corrected to have it control the engine correctly. That way you only have 1 ecu and gain obd2 in the process.

IMO, the less connections the better

Hey bud, I really appreciate the input! However, I have already completed the swap mentioned above in this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=308447 (sorry if its not a link, Im posting from my phone) with a 98% success rate. turns out the shift theory wasnt as important as I thought, but ill tell yea, Ive learned more about transmission control in the last year then I care to admit lol

how do you reprogram that 99 ecu
