Hey y'all, my 2000 Explorer Sport 4X2 4.0 SOHC is in need of more horsepower. So far, I have installed a Mac air-induction kit along with a Helix throttle-body spacer. Any more horsepower increase ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...

You may want to have posted this in the Modified Explorer forum since this isn't really a Before and After. You may get more attention there. Or you can try searching for 'performance mods'. Good luck.

!

yah exhaust might be a thought since you have more air coming in you need somehting to put more air out something to consider

My 99xlt Is Sluggish Going Up Large Hills On The Highway, Any Ideas Regarding This Problem Would Be Appreciated. Thanks

www.torquemonsterheaders.com for some headers
bamachips.com for a chip
and if u want to go crazy explorerexpress.com for a supercharger!!!!
stylinconcepts.com makes an exhaust
there are somethings for u to check out

have fun

A throttle body spacer will do nothing to increase anything on a fuel injected engine and especially the Explorer. Do yourself a favour and sell it and buy something else. Also, someone mentioned the header option. Those only work on a 5.0. The Sport never had the 5.0 available. Outside of doing a V8 swap, that won't help you.

Given that you've already got an intake, get yourself a free flowing catback exhaust setup using the money you got from selling the throttle body spacer. Then get customer tuning via an SCT chip or flasher. Makes a world of difference.

i recommend bama chips. i purchased the xcallibrator 2 and its great. horsepower, torque, and shift gains. A+ product

For a V6....you arent going to get too much power out of anything, especially in an SUV. I'd suggest a small blower. :D

I know aldive and i already got into this but you can change the plugs and wires to make more power/regain power that has been lost over the years. but getting an exhaust it really helps out the intake and a tuner, the tuner is up next for me.

Do some research and you will find that you can get allot out of a 4.0 SOHC engine...with enough money... and by the way, an SUV is just a bodystyle. But I am sure that you already know that. :p

yeah, i've owned three Mustang GTs and you arent going to get much out of a 5.0 without heads, intake manifolds or power adders such as turbo, nitrous or a blower. Full exhaust on a 5.0 is worth about maybe 10 HP. On a heavy, overweight SUV with a 4.0, i could imagine that it would be hardly worth the money.

rich the Gt-40 5.0L already has decent heads and intakes.
The factory explorer manifolds are the chocking point.

On the SOHC, Intake, Exhaust, Tuner are popular. Just recently the underdrive pulleys came around

Things to consider but are debatable as far as power adding goes are

Electric Fan
Electric Water Pump

I personally have the Black Magic 150 fan...the only different I could tell was the needle for engine temp was below the middle mark where as stock was at the middle mark
