Seized!!??

My mom took my 91 to do errands today and she said it started smoking really bad and wouldn't run right. It's now leaking coolant out the tailpipe and won't turn over.
I'm assuming the engine's blown, but hoping that it could be something else. There's also a lot of coolant near the reserve bottle.
HELP!

Probably blew a head gasket or cracked a head, then overheated it seizing the motor. Sorry.

How long did your mom keep driving it after it started to act strangely? Did she look at the temp gauge?

the whole trip was less than 1 km and she drove about two blocks after it started smoking. She didn't look at the temp guage, probably doesn't even know which one it is. Damnit.
I tried starting it to see if it would turn over but it's seized right up. Phook me, I guess school's on hold for another semester.

Yeah, she'd almost give me money. I wake up everyday to her telling me to go to the bank cause I owe her money... with interest. I can't help but laugh at how much of a blow to me this is right now. Someone laugh with me.

hey, mom, so i went to get me a new 4.0 L and the dude at Motor's R Us said there discontimued and that i need to put a 302 in. so you owe me a little more

The engine may not be blown. A leaking head gasket would flood the cylinder with coolant. Fluid will not compress and thus, the engine will not turn over. It's Hydroloced.

Easy fix .. pull the spark plugs and crank over the engine. Don't be anywhere near the car when this happens because coolant will shoot out of the spark plug hole like it was shot out of a cannon! Also, leave your hood up so that it doesn't damage the hood. Finally, before doing this, remove anything out of the "line of sight" of the spark plug holes

Hopefully you didn't bend a rod!

Once that is done, you could remove the heads and inspect the heads/block for damage. If no damage is present, yank the engine and have the heads/block decked and install new head gaskets.

Good news is I have a 1 year/12000 km powertrain warranty that covers up to $1500. I hope it's just hydrolocked. The mechanic said something about seeing a lot of explorers with this problem. I wish I could just rip it apart and look, but I don't want to void my warranty. It may save me $1500, but I'm really impatient.

I guess saving money is more important though, and the wait will probably be worth the outcome. Plus, it's too cold to be out in the garage.

That sounds like the time I threw a rod in my MonteCarlo... same type of symptoms.
