So, my truck shakes pretty good between 60 and 75mph. Over 75mph it doesn't shake so bad, just a little. Under 60, it doesn't really shake at all. I figured it is the alignment, but what else might it be?

Could be the drive shaft bolts loose, bad u joint, or worn out slip yoke?

Alignment DOES NOT cause "shaking".....it never will.

shaking is caused by something that is in ROTATION.

tires
wheels
rotors
axles
drive shafts
ect....

:salute:

Ah gotcha... Didn't know alignment didn't cause shaking. Maybe it's time for a tire rotation. We'll see what happens after that. Then maybe to the ujoints/driveshaft bc the rotors are brand new. Is a driveshaft job expensive?

95% of all "shaking", ends up being tires and balance, or bent wheel.

that is fact

:salute:

Also a fact..... 1st gens shake. Some shake worse then others. All around 65mph. No real fix if everything proves to be ok & you still got it.

Did it just start or did it always shake?

To isolate the problem you could rotate the tires from front to back and see if there is any change in the condition.

Yeah, I think Tenny is on it. A shake that comes and goes at certain speeds is surely something in rotation. You could have lost a balance weight at some point. I'd pretty much go straight to tire rebalancing. You could rotate the tires (and if you rebalance, have them do it). Think good thoughts and do good deeds today. This could also be a failed tire, delaminated belt, etc... and then you have to buy all 4 new ones. Good time to invest in karma.

On top of this.. The more worn steering and suspension pare are the easier it is to get the shake. When our X was closer to stock we could keep the shake to a minimum (if not completly gone) by keeping the RA nice and tight and keeping the tie rods/drag link in good working order.

Also, if your alignment is off AND the tires wear funny from it you can get a shake from the tires even though the alignment caused it.

Bent rim or imbalanced tire. I don't get this "first gens shake" thing, I've had a few and they only shook with bent wheels.

I have a 91 I recently purchased and it shakes also ... I replaced inner & outer wheel bearings, inner & outer tie rods & upper & lower ball joints on both sides and it helped it a lot, but it still has a small shake from time to time ... I also replaced the u joints as well ... no broken belts in tires that I can see or bent rims ... I am clueless ... may go ahead and replace rear wheel bearings too and then go from there ... it does seems to do it worse on mine in a curve

but its not consistent ... it just does it randomly

Balance your tires and get it out of the way. Tire shake from imbalance, particularly minor shake can result from balance issues. If you want a cheaper proofout, rotate the tires and see if it changes. Funny things happen with a set of slightly out of balance tires. Sometimes they actually compensate for each other, sometimes they get out of sync and it is much worse.

Anyway, I never regretted getting tires balanced. Worst case, your tires last another 10k longer.

It's always done it since we bought it, and we are trying to sell it. We'll probably get them balanced/rotated this weekend.
