I think I've sucked in water about 3 times, and it always happens when I try to run a mud hole. I've had my truck up to the top of the headlights down the pines, and no problem, but I think I get carried away when it's time to go through a mud hole. Gotta love the 4.0s
Alec, Where is the Tranny breather? I wen through a hole half way up the headlight summer before last and water got in my diffs huge. Last week I was going mud running so I raised my breathers. front up under the rear of the hood and the rear into the Gas cap compartment, but I could not find the Tranny breather- Any ideas(Auto)?
Oh, and don't forget how hard water is on the wheel bearings!
Dont foget about your t case too...the auto breather goes up around and then back down, I am not sure if it should be extended. If it does then I need to do mine ASAP.
Alec, is yours a manual tranny?
Does the t-case need to be extended?
The tranny might not need to be. I went throuugh the south platte 7 or 8 times and my tranny was fine, my differential breathers were spewing milk though. Got to replace the right shaft seal because of that. I had to take the entire TTB out- it sucked!
I extended all four of mine. not taking any chances for as cheap as tubing is. the t-case is easy to extend and I would recomend it. all of these can suck in water when they hit that cold and everything contracts and it sucks in like....(insert dirty coment here).
Yes but the A4LD auto tranny has a special metal vent tube that goes up and then down, there is something about how this line must exit below the tranny, I dont think it can be extended, but then I thinkit is also always spewing air so water will not enter....I will ask my tranny guy.
Manual trannys get extended just like the others.
I have my front and rear diffs and t case extended currently
Oh and Kirby I feel your pain. Brett and I dropped my TTB this weekend to swap out the diff for the new one with 4.10's and an ARB. pulled both axles, spindles, etc.... New brakes, re-did the bearings, had to weld up and axle and replace a u joint (ARB = no more clip =pass side axle can fall out at full droop, install a valve spring inthe axle slip yoke = weld up the slip yoke seal and install new U joint. Not fun. Took all dya, but it;s done now! Yeah!!!
espnfreak....... Probably wouldn't hurt to have the fluids changed.....cheap insurance. The engine and trans were both inoperative for awhile as they were submerged in water allowing for possible seepage.
Oh thats right the important thing to remember is extending the lines up doesnt mean you are water proof. Water will get into the stuff through the seals/gaskets if you are sitting in there a while.
The T case breather line comes out near the top of the t case housing and makes a J hook shape, it is only 8" long or so.
I will contact Lynn today. I spoke with Brett yesterday and he says he has seen them extended up with the other lines (the A4LD vent tube) with no problems. So we shall see!!!
I'm tryin' I'm tryin'! Jason needs to buy me the equipment lol. I still have to get it from vhs-c to the computer anyone have parts for it or know where I can get it from? I think Dazzle makes one.
Kewl, do you know what manufacturer makes them? So all you need to do is hook up a co-ax or rca connection to the capture card and hit play and then record on the computer?
I used 5/8 rubber line, my stuff was made for tranny coolant but thats just because I had a ton extra. You can use the vacuum line stuff they sell by the foot at parts stores. The rear diff vent gets extended up to where the fuel door is, seems to be a popular spot, however it would be nice to have it go up further or possibly even into the cargo area of the truck.
Teh transfer case and tranny and front diff all get extended up into the engine bay, I took mine right up the firewall next to the brake master cylinder.
Right now they just end like that, it isa good idea toput a small filter on the end of the lines to keep stuff from getting down in there too. You can also use t fittings to mate the tranny and t case together, no sense in running two lines when one will do.
Its as easy as that.
AAS for the capture card I got wahts called an ATI all in one pro 128. This things kicks but! It has RCA video and sound in and out, coax in and out and even S video in and out. Plus it is a very powerful graphics accelerator for games.....it was like $150 plugs and play right with Windows, easy to use and works great.
Voodoo also makes a good one, but the ATI also has an FM tuner and TV tuner built in, I wasnt able to find the Voodoo card with that stuff......
