- 2007 sport trac
I bought our 07 sport trac in July. Rides pretty good and I love it for camping and towing our tent trailer. Planning on going west into the rockies with brother and sister in law next yr and to the stampede. However, we have come across a couple of "weird" things that our service dealer can't figure out.
1. After driving for about 20-30 mins, the tire sensor alert comes on followed immediately by the tire sensor failure alert. Service tech says that when they put the computer on it though, they don't see anything come up.
They don't know whether it is a sensor, or which sensor or if it is something else. Sometimes if I push the cluster button, it goes away, sometimes when you shift it into park it goes away, sometimes if you stop and restart it goes away, sometimes not.
2. The second thing that happened was that the truck seemed to put itself into 4X4. I have never owned a 4X4 before so I don't really know how it would feel to drive it on the highway that way. There was no 4x4 symbol on the cluster display, but when I was backing out of the lane and turned the wheel sharply, it was like the wheels all locked up until I gunned the engine, then they spun and the truck started moving again.
3. On the same trip (all of a 15 minute drive) the cluster went blank no LED of anything (no speed, no direction no symbols). However, I soon as I turned it off and restarted it, it was fine. Only then did I realize that it might be in 4X4. I hadn't been anywhere near the button for 4X4
4. Two days later I am driving into work and everytime we climbed a hill or I asked the engine for more power, it was like the whole truck started shaking the rpm dropped by 500 or so (from 1500-1000) almost like in stead of shifting to a lower gear it shifted to a higher one. I thought maybe it had shifted into 4 X4 again so I kept pushing the Auto 4X4 button. Only did this on one trip early in the morning outside air temp 9 deg C. My son drove it later that morning and it was fine. Driving home it was fine. Hasn't done it since.
All of these things seem to sound like a computer issue to me but in all honesty I don't really know how these things are controlled and whether a computer glitch could be responsible for all of them. But given the only common denominator I can see is the electronics (everything is push button or controlled by the computer now) its the only thing that makes sense to me.
The service department has been very good trying to figure this out and they still have an open work order on. The tech says he has some feelers out with FORD but nothing yet. It still has about 10000 KM left on the warranty and I want to get this squared away before that is up.
Has anyone else seen or heard of these things happening.
Happily I don't think we have had any of the bumping or strange "shifting" that the TSB I have seen frequently on this site would address.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
