Not sure what happened here, but I went to drive JP home tonight and when I turned the ignition on I got a puff of Smoke from the Air Bag and then a burnt electrical smell. Then the Air bag light started blinking. Now it's just solid. Every time I would make a turn you could a wire sounding like it was binding up inside. I was afraid the thing was gonna blow up in my face on the way home:eek:

I don't really care at this point if the air bags work or not in JP...they are kinda pointless at this point. But I'd like to know what happen here at least....

Thoughts?

Disconnect the battery remove airbag and check the clock spring I bet that's the issue

That yellow wire is the airbag connector...

If the clock spring is bad, can I pull one from a truck that has had the air bag already go off? Or does that make it toast?

I think that the airbag going off kills the clock spring...that one up there was dead when I got it out of a crashed truck, the horn wire wasn't working on it

I'd get a new one honestly.. Trying to remove one from a vehicle is a pita.. And you can't use one from a vehicle with the airbag already discharged from what I understand. Monmix could probably answer that question more about using one from a used vehicle.

Alright what happens if I just leave it? My Air bag isn't gonna blow up in my face right?

I'm guessing I'd lose my horn at some point....:(

I don't have cruise, so no loss there.

Btw it carries the signal for the horn, cruise control, audio climate controls, etc so I think you need one that matches what you have

If it unwound it could tangle inside not sure if it could interfere with steering

If you get a short from the horn to the air bag it could go off, my vote is replace is as soon as you can

For now I just unplugged the airbag.... Horn still works (for now) and no more fear of Air bags blowing up in my face:D

all the cir in the clock spring are grounds, no power ever runs through it, only time power is present in the clock spring is when the rcm deploys the airbags.

You're airbag will be fine and still function as normal. At least mine did when I burned out the clock spring in my sport.

How do the lights in the cc buttons get power?

We'll I guess snagging the one out of there is out:D. Lol!!

...Easiest?..I got one from Kbabiak a long time ago, cheap and no worries..;)

The power for the horn also runs through the clock spring, as well as possibly the power for the cruise control buttons

Lost the horn:(
