SNJ's Rig (full build progress thread)

well the new noise up front was a small peice of grit caught in one of the groves of the tensioner. however this caused me to discover a crack in the pulley, so that got replaced this afternoon

fixed the hatch. im probably eventually gonna have to take he whole dam thing apart and re bend the middle peice but for now i shimed the crap out of it to bring it closer to the nubbin on the handle assy. works for now. last time i bent it in the door, and that only lasted like a month, so well try this

stupid electronic shift craps pissin me off still see thread HERE, or send me a 1354M or an atlas... will take either

EDIT the link in this post is dead. i had the posts merged back into here. kthxbie

managed to have a compound problem. not sure what came first, but i had a cracked magnet in the motor that broke a peice off and wedged the motor. this could be a result of me wackin the motor with a hammer and not a cause

the one module seems to be bad. the other module is ok. both give the red light. if nothing else ones board is physically in better shape then the other

somewhere along the line. not sure if i did it or if it was a problem to start, but a few of the terminal locks in one of the connectors were damaged, casuing a few of the terminals to push out of the connector.

not sure what was the underlying cause but a corection of all 3 of those yeilded me a working t-case again.

so dad saw the pictures from wharton...

his comment was something to the tune of "oh hell hes in the water again" :D

a present showed up for munk today. id been promising this one for a long time

shifter stuffs should be following it shortly

Thats a great splash shot. I wonder if I could water ski behind you. :D

better put a better vent tube on this one, maybe vent it inside the cabin so water don't get in again,

bob, i got a nice d-ring hangin off the back and a few straps... grab on and lets go

corkey... i do ahve a breather on my current one. runs up to the corner of the engine bay... along with the trans and both axles... as long as i keep that out of water im fine

Somebody decided to overheat in the showfeild, wich then lead to the fastest fan clutch swap ever. Thanks To everyone who was involved in that, and expecially J-RodG for runin me in his truck to advanced autoparts.

Finally really got to flex her legs at rausch this weekend. Gotta say it does really well. im quite proud of her. we kept it kinda easy for the most part due to the mix of the group, but she did see a little bit of black
as always gotta give credit where credits due. Thanks to Blee and Five for their spotting

I had feared that the rear springs were to soft, and this was confirmed, im sagin into negative arch teritory and theyre wraping and loading up alot. Im gonna try going back to a 3 leaf pack and see how that does.
I cut up the L/R tire pretty good from it walking into the fender and tearing at the rolled edge untill it was pulled out almost straight.

I also broke the l/s mirror on a tree (wich could have been easily avoided had i backed up and cut the wheel, but i went for it) mirror is still pretty intact for the hit it took
have a nice little dent on the corner of the r/f fender and cracked a marker lamp from another tree that i thought i was gonna get with the bumper
not that any of that really matters, im just kinda braggin. as was said, no one can give me crap for not usin this thing

since the weather sucked i didnt go to either of the local cruse nights, and decided to do some minor maintenece to munk

started out with mounting the 35x12.5 AT spare that spas was not only so awsome to give me, but to store it for like a year till i finally got it from her at carlisle... because shes well awsome like that

It ended with me hosing down the truck outside at 10PM in the rain with a presure washer

its what happened in between that is worying.

after 3 months and 2k miles it was time for munk's oil change, no biggie

I also beat the L/R fender back to a rough aproximation of its former self, and cut away soem of the jagged bits that cut into the tire back there

i then grab the l/f wheel and know from the get go that this is bad...
pull the wheel, pull the hub and this is what i see..

yea, not good, the outer locknut has overun the stub retaining ring, and the inner is no where near to holding the bearings anywhere good

0609102000.jpg

the ring wascompletely mishapen from the outer lock nut... suprisingly the little clip didnt let go.

i wound up running home in another car and cannibalizing the 94 LTD for some replacement parts.. thank god for parts trucks

the other sides inner was fine, but the outer wasnt as tight as it should be... aparently someone (ME) failed to tourqe the outers enough when i adjusted them last. lets just say i dont think imma make that mistake again

kinda really glad i didnt go anywhere more then i did before i found this. its a wonder i didnt feel it drivin home on sunday

while im hear i have new rear springs on the way, wich im hoping will sort out a few of the issues im having back there, as well as force the front to work more and make the truck a little more balanced.

man this thread will never ever die since this truck will be built forever haha and i sooooo need a full parts 2nd gen

^^^^hahaha. i'm surprised that lindsy let you keep that spare after holding her head in that fart can at the show!

im innocent i swear...

ok, lets see where were at here. ive been amassing t-case stuff and spare t-case stuff for the last 2 weeks. with just about enough to do the swap twice ill get to pick and chose parts and have some spares, witch is ****.

for anyone who hasnt heard me mention i kinda screwed up my LMC 4 leaf springs... way to soft... i ordered 3 leaves from them, they sent me 2 different springs oddly enough, but the 3 leaves dont look that much thicker then the 4 leaves and all the lmc stuff is thinner then stock. I decided to just take a refund on the 3 leaves and go back to stock leaves

IMG_1866.jpg

from top to bottom, LMC 4 leaf, (wich looks like a B2 pack) stock, 2 lmc 3leaves taped together waiting to get sent back

the problem im having is that the leaves have gone completely negative, with the main leaf starting to kink into a W, witch has caused the handling to be a bit squirley and the axle to do all kinds of fun wrapping things

IMG_1861.jpg

this it with the truck at rest

also for anyone who hasnt been payin attn the tires actually walked forward and chewed themselves up on the body pretty good when the axle wrapped at rausch the begining of the month. its not hard to see the potential, with how close the tires siting to the body

IMG_1864.jpg

at the rear bumper im siting 3 inches lower then i was a month ago

im trowing this in just because fire is always fun
IMG_1859.jpg

burning the bushings out.

i had some energy suspension bushings lying around from when i did the frame to shackle bushings, so i threw them in the leaves

IMG_1869.jpg

siting on its weight now, this is a much better looking veiw

youll also notice i moved the shocks. i managed to rub the body of the pass side shock on the exhaust, so i swaped the SOA brackets and moved the shocks inboard to the swaybar brackets to try and gain some room between the two

IMG_1871.jpg

alot more room in there now

Im definitely not a fan of that so called "california rake" id much rather have the truck sitting level or higher in the rear. no offense to anyone who is a fan, its just not my thing

IMG_1877.jpg

im pretty happy with where we stand now. i had taken some baseline measurements when i put the shackles in originally and right now im 2 inches over where i was then. the ride home tonight was definitely firmer yet way more predictable.. plus the veiw over the hood is better

also while those rear leaves were flexy as all heck the rear worked almost to well. im kinda hoping this will force my front springs to work more and make the truck a little more ballanced

looks better now to break them in =]

those have been broken in, they were on the truck originally with the 31s, so atleast i know im not in for any suprises...

and bob, your welcome :D

haha ok well time to uh re introduce them into the wild =p and anyone have a 2nd gen front diff just yanno under the rug somewere? haha mines shot bearings seals all are dun for (cept the new pinion seal i just wasted my time on) after i replace that im back on the trails but till then im stuck to pavement

I dont know... siomething about t-case swap, and ####in up the tailshaft housing, and not bein able to get the manual shift rod to seat and whatever else happened tonight...

munks spendin the overnight at work, i took the pickup home, ill elaborate on all the rest of it tomorow after i get her drivable again

geeze jay, your having fun with that dam transfer case aren't you! maybe i should have grabbed something from that truck at work!

t-case wasnt the problem... it was the mounting hole for the shifter cracking off the tailshaft extension that did me in... that and i worked till 7 something so i got a late start, so time wasnt on my side...

i had to pull the tailshaft housing to fix the damaged threads on it, wich was salvageable once it was out of the truck. its like a 9/16 thread of wicch no one in my shop has a tap for, so i had to make one out of a bolt, repair it on the ground, mount the shifter, then put the whole thing back in the truck

i then had a ***** of a time getting the manual park rod thingger to sit in its hole in the tailshaft housing, took 2 tries. the first time i thought i had it i missed, and locked the thing up somewhere beyond manual first ( i really didn't think the lever would go that far to the one side)

and ya know, heres a funny thought... 3 or 4 years ago i had the forthought to mount my hump mounted fire extinguisher to the pass side of ther floor acess panel with intensions of puting in a manual t-case... shame i didnt have the forthought about the handle winding up right in the mic plug for the cb....
