So it happened to me, *accident* HELP!

Oh, and you may need to have it realigned after you replace those shackles. I suspect that the springs are fine.... they can take a beating.

hit and run basically....I got a partial plate number in my rear view mirror which im gonna have my uncle run at work tommorow. police officers in the family are a must :D

Otherwise, thanks again for the help.... I was thinking about that weakest link possibility too, so hopefully the shackes took the brunt of the force and nothing else. I dont notice any fluid leeking at all, so im guessing that means my seals are still good. I'll be looking for a new axle shaft and buying a new set of cheapo shackles for the moment since im already strapped for cash as it is. Tommorow i will go measure the fender to wheel clearance and report back.

yeah that shaft will work ...

I was able to get the axle shaft off today, but i didnt notice any visual bening on the shaft at all. I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing :o I've got a replacement coming just to know that i replaced it. Im just praying its nothing more than that since it is only wobbling on one side.

tommorow=shackle replacement :thumbsup:

did u check to make sure its not the wheel thats just bent? i mean the axle shaft itself could be fine but the wheel could be bent. try swapping in ur spare tire with the wobbling one and take it for a spin.

the original wheel was toast. i took both of the wheels off and made sure that the axle was indeed wobbling, and it was.

Gotcha

ok so you turned the pinion shaft and the left axle was indeed wabbling, but you took the shaft out and it didnt look bent?

what does the carrier look like when you turn the pinion?

Josh, you didn't break my headlights, did you ;) Good to see you're OK! Good luck w/ the repair...

i took both of the wheels off, jacked up the truck, put it in drive and let off the brake and watched as the left axle shaft/brake rotor wobbled. nothing on the right side however. the shaft doesnt look bent at all from a minor visual inspection. what do i need to be looking at on the carrier when i turn the pinion? everything seemed to be moving smoothly when i was positioning the axle to take the c clips out :o

front end looks great, ive got a little bit of body damage on the left door though :(

The saga continues, i finally got a replacement axle shaft in the mail after fedex had lost it. But im back, and with a problem that I hope you guys can help me with since this is my first time doing this. I was an idiot and forgot not to rotate the axle shafts while the pinion shaft was removed, and as a result this is what Im left with. These fell out from each side as i rotated the axle shaft to try to align the pinion shaft.

Can someone pleas help me or point me to a write up on how to get these gears back in? They are 2 different sizes.

Here is how everything is supposed to look, is the bigger of the 2 gears supposed to go on the bottom or top?

Thanks in advance.

Does this just involve doing the opposite of what i did to cause the problem, or do i need to take even more of the differential apart?

No!!! haha just gotta put em back in there the same way they came out

Personally i didnt think one spider gear was bigger then the other. Maybe i never noticed it before

Give me a lil bit, im actually about to to work on my differential. Ill see if i can find out which gear goes on top

im not completly sure but i think both spider gears are the same size....because i riped apart a chevy 10 bolt for my auto tech project and it doesnt matter which way i put them in it all works.....

South59, were you able to get it back togeather?

I looked at my old stock carrier for my 92 8.8 and the spider gears were the same size...
