02' 4x4
hey guys, new to the forum so forgive any dumb questions! i just got a 02' 4x4 explorer yesterday, (thought it was an 03, but) w/a 4.0 automatic, and it's completely stock. first question is, do these make good off road vehicles? not gonna be doin much if any rock crawlin type stuff just trail riding mostly. is there any advice to what i should do first? i'd like to get it lifted and maybe some 35's or 36's on it as well. 2nd question, are the 4.0's a very good motor? and what can be done to wake them up? thanks for any help and advice!

Shouldn't you have asked these questions before you bought the truck. Build it like Stic-o or jefe.

ok, welcome to the forum:D

you will need a suspension lift and a body lift to get anywhere near a 35....36's if ya do some fender trimming as well

if ya wanna lift it, but not throw a bunch of money at it, get a body lift and do a torsion twist with some shackles.....should be good for 33's

the 4.0 is a good motor and responds well to the same mods all FI motors respond to ( headers, exhaust, intake, programmers, etc...)

that is just for starters.......there are alot of good writeups for mods and installs on this forum...just need to search and poke your nose about....

btw, since ya in Nash. need to check out Turkey Bay for some good trails ( both for stock as well as modded trucks ) , have a meet at the end of the month, so check out the offroad/runs forum:thumbsup:
