hhhmmmmm ok Who Spiked the Kool-Aid tonight? :smoke:

What clutch are you going to run with the M5? Stock or aftermarket?
I'm going with pretty much OEM -- there's an AC-Delco on E-bay for $180 something. I was initially thinking of a Centerforce but with the doubler and lower 1st gear ratio of the M5-HD, I'm pretty certain that an OEM will work just fine with no slipping. Plus the Centerforce is at least $120 more than the AC-Delco and that money will go towards other clutch parts like the flywheel, slave cylinder, and maybe a CNC or Willwood master cylinder.

As for today, I removed the automatic:

Manual on the left, Automatic on the right:

Both are the same exact length. I was going to bolt up the Manual to the engine today but I got a phone call and couldnt pass up riding in DC.

So you still thinking about going with the Megasquirt now. Since you don't have to worry about the transmission now?

Yeah -- thats one of the main reasons why I chose to go with the manual (other reason is being able to go vertical w/o the transmission going dry).

Going with a MegaSquirt just makes sense :
- cleaner setup and wiring
- instead of spending $$ on a gauge set, I can spend it on an all-in-one LCD display thats much cleaner
- I can put the MegaSquirt into a removable casing which means it'll pretty much be imposible to steal my rig without an ECU.
- I can interface the MegaSquirt via USB into another computer (either onboard the Explorer or in the van) for data acquisition, control, or whatever else.

Can we interface the mega squirt into a wireless application and wheel your truck from a laptop? If so sign me up!

Sure! Come on over and set that up! Set up a VPN on the on-board computer running a web interface with streaming Flash video. It'll be like the Batmobile!

JTX, you're weird :p: Go back to playing QuadPong: http://allgamesallfree.net/games3943-quadpong.html

Look at the manual tranny

Thats what im talking about. Get a great clutch when you put it in. Stock is not where it is at

You'll have to convince me that its worth the extra $120-$150 :)

EDIT -- Matt!!! Maaaaaatttt (RockRanger), clutch input with a doubler please!?!?

It's not when your gonna be swapping the auto back in after one trip ;)

Oh yeah your gonna have a doubles. I can slip mine and every now and then it will chatter when off road

I put a centerforce clutch in mine and there is nothing special about it, sometimes i wonder if it slips more then my stock one did. In fact if I remember correctly I think it had a LuK symbol stamped right on it (probably just rebadged). Because our transmissions are relatively small there isn't room for the weights that centerforce clutches are famous for so they are pretty much the same design as stock ones, with maybe a better compound on the clutch disc. To be honest if i have to do it again i probably won't bother paying the extra dough for a centerforce again.

Sweet thanks for the input Nick! I'll go with the AC-Delco.

I run a stocker with my doubler. I run out of traction or balls before the clutch slips. With the doubler I can be on 45 degree angle and let the clutch out while still on the brakes and as it starts to pull start letting off the brakes and then roll into the gas. No more rolling backwars before the clutch catches.

Thanks again for the input Matt.

My $.02 on clutches... I plan on staying stock after all teh trouble Das Frem & Doug have had with theirs. But I'd use the genuine Ford stuffs, IZ. Better quality! I can ask how much the whole thing is if you want, I think my price was $140.
