Oh, they do break. This one had alloys, Jeep 4.xL engine, lightweight buggy and 39's. Broke in some big rocks when a tire dropped in a hole. Not much throttle either

Since you are running alloys you shouldnt worry about it, breakage would be rare. Carry spares but leave them at the trailer.

lol...i've recently put the 60 through some hell 2 weeks ago and it did fine. If my somewhat heavy foot, 4low, V8, and heavy azz foot didnt break it you won't either.
Have you put most of the weight on one front corner and tried to back up? Cauz I find that going up is no problem since there is hardly any weight on the front, even for the D44. But once the nose is down and the vehicle is leaning on that one corner, thats when axle shafts are likely to snap.

I still think its funny that i'm not the only crazy Filipino on the trails
Yeah isn't it weird? How off roading is also for people from other lands :D

agreed.

All this talk about breaking something that isn't even built. I'm glad to see your going with a big dog tire, that 60 drags a lot of steel under it. I look at the axle on my superduty and can't believe how much more mass is under that than my 44.

A wise man once told me that Dana 60s are for lead footed honkeys who need to compensate for not knowing how to drive. So what does that make IZwack if he breaks a 60?

Building a 44 is just delaying the inevidable. By the time u have the put all that money in the 44 U could have had a stock or built 60. I had over $2,000 in my D44.I Broke 7 or 8 44 stock shafts and joints. I put chromos and Ox joints in it and kept breaking hubs. Dont get me wrong i am lead footed but half the shafts and hubs i broke I wasnt even in the Gas. Big tires+low gear= Breakage......

Ya. I got wedged between a rock and a hard place, literally. I could only back out of it at an angle and it was a 4 foot wall of dirt and rocks. Mashed a tow hook doing it.

At the Badlands I destroyed a Superior axle and a CTM U-joint. That time the locking hub didn't even blow...

Drive flanges will just ensure more expensive parts blow before the hub;)
Before I blew the axle and U-joint I had already blown at least two hubs on that side, so the other parts may have already been stressed. They had also, been in there for 5 or 6 years, so it wasn't totally unexpected... Last, but not least I had the first gen CTM joints which weren't radiused where the trunnion met the body of the joint. The replacement they sent for free was properly radiused.

BTW, I talked to Ox when I was at SEMA two years ago and mentioned Danny's blown joint, the guy was honest with me and admitted the Ox wasn't the strongest joint out there.

i remember when you broke Rick

ahhhh yes the age old debate rages on........

Its a communal contructive sharing of experiences :D

good thread this just convinced me D60 it will be as long as I can find one in decent condition
with what I'm wanting to build stubbler and 36-37s full widths and as low lifted as possible..

So if anyone runs into a set of 39" red label Krawlers, please let me know! If I cant find any Krawlers, then I'll settle for the Interco SX2 (coming out this spring) or Iroks.

Call me el stupido but i don't know what you mean by red label?

could this be the new fad? red letters!! ohhhh!!j/k

Any info to help grow my knowledge is appreciated!

btw I cant wait to see all this happen.. I hope to come back down to the rausch creek area sometmie soon and i would love to see your ex doing its thang... i have never seen a built ex wheel!!
keep up the good work Senator!:salute:

BFG Krawlers are offered in what they call "blue" and "red" label. The blue is non competition compound that is available to anyone and the red label is a competition or "sticky" compound not offered to the general public.
Sometimes you can get lucky and one of those competitors will offer them up in the classifieds.

Thanks off_road_Rusty and thanks for the red-label explanation DB_1!!

Thanks for the heads up cyber -- I found a set for 1k (wow) locally too but its already gone. But no worries, I have at least half a year to find a set.

OK Cool mang:cool:

Thanks DB_1 for label clarification too. had been wondering what they mean't:thumbsup:

:thumbsup:thanks for the info!

Idea:

Chop the frame rail right in front of the engine mount which would allow for a high panhard on the axle side (no frame rail to run into) -- which would mean better roll center.

Move the axle forward for a panhard that can flex in front of the engine allowing for a 0 degrees horizontal panhard bar which would mean better off camber situations.

Tuck the axle up closer to the frame rail -- better overall CG.
