Spdrcer34 is going V8!....

I received the oil filter adapter today.

It threads into the block perfectly and the filter side of the adapter has 3/4 16 threads.

Which I believe is compatible with most ford oil filters including the FL-1A.

I figured I'd ask this here since it applies to Ryan as well.

Wickedwindsor, how much of a PITA is changing your spark plugs?

Cause I finished changing mine about 9 hours ago and I still feel kinda like choking whoever was involved in the design of the 92 explorer engine bay.

Matt...

I take it you were changing plugs on your 4.0L?

It's not that bad, really!

For the passenger side, rear 2 plugs... just go through the wheel well...WAY easier!

I changed the plugs in my `93 in about 30 minutes, it took me about 45 min. to change the plugs on my `92, as I had to jack it up by the frame, so the wheel would drop ou of the way to get to the plugs.

Yeah I know.

99% of the problem was that is was frikin cold out side, my rear passenger spark plug boot siezed to the plug and BROKE and the whole time my arm was through the hole in the wheel well tryin to get it loose the spring mount was tearing my arm up.

And it was cold.

Did I mention it was cold?

Early mustang/falcon/fairlane shorties headman #88400's are said to work well.

Of course, your clearance will vary depending on where you position the motor and what mounts you use.

ah

Those appear to have much potential.

Ever get that spacer sent out??? lol

One day when Ryan is cleaning out his garage, a day when Explorer's no longer are commonly talked about, he's going to find it at the bottom of a part bin and go:

I got rid of my A/C blower motor plenum and replaced it with a non A/C plenum from a ranger with makes tons of access on the passenger side. On the drivers side, the #7 plug is not difficult to get at, just takes a little patience because of the dipstick and steering shaft all there. The #8 plug, I have to use a wrench on the end of my plug socket because there isn't enough room for a ratchet on the socket because of the firewall. Make sure you put your headers on good before you install engine though as this is a royal PITA to re&re on the drivers side.

I have a used pair of headers similar to those pictured in post #125, from my 86 Crown Vic with a 351W and 302.

Just got off the phone with duff.

There headers Will work for explorers. They have them in black paint(239$) or ceramicoat(399$).

I think I will go with the black paint ones and have them coated.

Why would you do THAT?

When the shorty headers that were posted look like they will work with P heads, AND they are about $154.00 from Summit, AND they are in stock....

The Duff headers are said to NOT work with the P heads....

Ryan

damn now you say that I remember reading a while back that they interfere with the spark boots. Even 90 degree ones. Crap.

I liked the long tube idea. And I I've heard the hedman's for the 4.0 are crap.

I'm going to get the Hedman's posted here...

I'll get them Jet Hot Coated after I fit them in the chassis..

Ryan

I think I will go that way as well. Theylook good. And JT say he will ceramicoat them for me.

The only problems I see are the lack of o2 bungs. Which can be welded in after the collector. And the lack of an EGR port.

Which is a problem. I don't want to weld one in cause any modification voids the lifetime warranty. But I REALLY don't want to loose EGR.

I have no idea what an EGR does, but you can't weld it just after the collector or something such? Kind of like there are some 02 sensors in catalytic converters now a days? I think?

FYI: For the talk about the T-5WC from a long while back. Advance adapters sold an adapter to mate it to a bronco dana 20. This is no longer sold, however I do have this setup sitting in my shed from my original engine swap that was disbanded. SO, if anyone wants it, PM me ;)

That was an FYI not a hijack either ;)

I am going to keep my stock 5.0L downpipes, and they have the front O2 sensors THERE, not in the collector.

As for the EGR, you can buy the EGR bung, and add it after the fact...

I'm thinking that that is what I am going to do.

But it voids the header warranty. Unless your just not worried about it.

Are you talking about the second gen v8 downpipe?
