Spdrcer34 is going V8!....

Ryan,

I know you have the one of, if not the lowest non-air lowered first generations around.

I'm not sure how much extra weight the V8 and upgraded tranny will be, but will there be a difference in height once installed?

Meaning, will the front be to low or to much weight on your lowering i-beams?

I am going to have it re-aligned after the swap. If it doesn't need to be adjusted, I know I'm good....but I have a feeling it will drop it a little more that I had before.

I am going from a 4.0L V-6, 5 spd Manual to a 5.0L 4 Spd Auto, I estimate between the Engine & trans, as well as the coolers (Oil, Trans, PS) I am going to need to install are going to add about 120 lbs. The dash and wiring upgrade are going to add another 15-20 lbs.

Ryan

I lost about 1" of ride height with the 5.0L after the springs settled
So I installed F-150 spring seats :)

Thanks for the info 410...looks like another alignment bushing is in order....

Here is the jig I built to get the spacing and placement correct for the previously shown Fox Body Motor Mounts.

Here you can I started with some slightly modified Explorer 5.0L mounts bolted in place, outlined in red.

Once I had them in place, I welded some 1/2 wide bars, outlined in Green, to the keep them in place once I removed them.

Once I had it all welded up and in 1 piece, I un-bolted it, and took it inside where it was dry (yeah...it's raining BAD out there), and started playing with it. Now, with the spacing set-up, the Explorer Mounts will emulate the proper spacing of the mounting point on the 5.0L block. With the jig built I can bolt the Mustang mounts to the Explorer Mounts, drop the assembly into the `92 engine bay, and get the proper placement of the mounts on the engine crossmember.

I hope that works! The engine cradle is totally diff from a Stang

Yes, it is...but the angles are nearly identicle.

I have to reverse the mounts from side to side to make them fit the RBV cradle. That way it moves the bolts onto the cradle. If you keep the L & R mounts on the same side, the bolts will miss the cradle.

Ryan

just like the re-boxed mustang mounts sold as James Duff or Advance Adapters conversion mounts...WAJ

410...EXACTLY!

These mounts have been done before. But there is no REAL clear instructions or pictures on where they need to be placed. I know a lot of that depends on your front accessory dress, and exhaust.

Saaaaaaweet

I am reposting this from another thread that I started in the Stock 1995-2001 Sub Forum, asking about the Fan to Radiator Clearance on the 5.0L Equipped 2nd Gen's..

With the Stock 4.0L A/T Radiator installed in my `92, there is 29 1/8" from the Spotweld seam near the top of the Firewall (just above the HVAC box, and brake booster) to the back (engine side) of the radiator.

With the stock 5.0L Fan in place, from the face of the Fan to back of the intake, it measures 28".

The Stock 5.0L Fan is 3 1/8" thick (measured from the waterpump pulley face, to the face of the thermo clutch.

With an Electric fan, I can have the stock 4.0L radiator in place.

Ryan

so from your measurements I take it we have 4&1/4 inches clearance for electric fan thinckness.

The intake can't TOUCH the firewall.

Having an inch back there, would take the clearance to 3 1/8"

Ryan

Good point.

At least now we know for sure that if the rad is moved under the support there will be plent of room for anykind of fan. And possibly even without relocation.

so ryan,

can you post some rough measurements or your jig so i can make one when the time comes.

i would really appreciate it man.

Yeah, no problem.

What radiator are you going to use?

Ryan

I think I have 1/2 from firewall to back of upper intake :)
1" to play with = heaven!

You may consider staggering two smaller fans?
its going to be tought to keep it cool and get a fan that fits in that space IMO
We looked at a bunch of fan options on my friend Joe's 93 4 door with a 5.0L, flex lite, stock, electric
he ended up with a AA conversion radiator and stock explorer fan to keep his rig cool
lifted 4x4 is diff then street truck though for cooling big time

I'm gonna use a new stock 4liter rad.

I'll either cut a hole in the support to get to the rad cap. Or I'll cut it completley off, patch that hole, and use the hose/filler adapter like jaime.

If I was to do it over again (I am about to LOL) I would jusst mod the radiator support, like you are talking. I didnt want to cut up my BII back then, now I am about to cut it in half! LOL
shhhhhhhhhh its a secret

Gotta keep it on the Down Low.

I need to know if this is the part (the one with the Orange Backround) I need to insert into the block in place of the factory cooler, so I can attach the Canton 90* adapter (the one with the arrows pointing to the 1/2" NPT threads)....

Ryan

The adapters take different block thread adapters based on there thickness. I need to find a big Allen wrench to swap my block filter adapter.

Those filter adapters should come with the block adapter, or be available.
