Hello,

I have a 2006 ford explorer limited. I just want to know what aftermarket speakers can replace the factory ones. I bought some 6x9s but they did not fit so i returned them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I believe that the Explorer (like most Ford's) are 5x7 speakers, you can pick up 6.5 to 5x7 adapter plates though to open up a lot more options with what speakers you can run.

I ordered my speakers through Crutchfield. Don't have to buy there but they can list what speakers fit.

Thanks for the replies they are appreciated. I will try the 5x7s. I will go ask the guys over at audio/navigation to see what they recommend. Ive been to crutchfield and seen what they have in stock. What speakers do you have in your explorer Eric1249? My 6x9s were kicker ds series.

I have Focal. I had them with a Kenwood deck in my old Explorer. I have them in my 09 with the stock deck. Sound pretty good. I think they would sound better with an amp.

I will try the 5x7s.

Use a 6x8, the increase in cone area will enhance the mid bass. Just be aware of any depth issues regarding window clearance.

I've been really happy with these. I have an aftermarket head unit so it's a little more powerful than stock, but they will improve your sound either way.

Alright Eric1249. Those look nice Froader. Swshawaii that was my problem witht the 6x9s, they interfered with the window acuator arm. I'm keeping my head unit stock, I'm just looking for a little bass not enough to shake the car just...(think of the bass in skullcandy earphones)...well something like that. Some bass that I can hear and not actually feel (if that makes any sense). Do you guys recommend any speakers? I appreciate all the replies guys thanks!!

I think I recommended those for you.

Yeah, any 5x7 or 6x8 should work.
Many Pioneer ones are actually listed as being "Made for Ford Vehicles" since they have a shallow enough mounting depth to not hit the window track.

I had the older versions of those Pioneers in a Ford Contour and they did sound very good for the price.

My favorite have always been Infiniti Kappa and Infiniti Kappa Perfects.

Not cheap but AMAZING sound quality.
