If anyone is interested, I volunteered myself as a guinea pig and pieced together a DIY intake from the Spectre parts you can buy at the auto parts stores. I can post up the part numbers that I used and pictures (once I figure that out). It doesn't look bad at all. I did have to do some modifying of parts but that's because impatient and didn't want to wait on ordering parts. There are, however, correct parts (from best I can tell) that should not need to be modified and should bolt right up, more or less. There was also a coupler that needed some convincing (also I believe could be rectified with a better fitting/more correct parts). Otherwise, not to bad.

I do think the chrome piping looks better than the rubber, however now you have a warm air intake. An open element will use warm air from under the hood.

I verified this myself on my sons car when he installed the spectre stuff on his marquis. In his case the spectre open element assembly drew air which was 56 degrees warmer than ambient air temp. Reninstall the stock box and at idle sitting still intake air temp was within 2 degrees of ambient. He then went back to autozone for a refund.

The stock air box will give the coolest air possible.

You can verify this yourself using a scangaugeII to monitor intake air temperature.

Had a Mac intake and didn't notice any difference from the stock box and if anything was worse in South FL heat in summer. On these trucks the stock box, I cut the front open and removed silencer from behind the light, with an AEM filter..... seems to work the best as its completely shielded from the heat and drawing fresh cooler air from the light area.

While I don't dispute the science or facts and I too know the aforementioned to be true, in my particular case it's more of a "because I wanted to" type thing. With your data in mind, it's also reasonable to say that the MAC cold air intake is pointless. Not sure if you were trying to insinuate that I am ignorant or stupid or whatever with the "now you have a warm air intake" comment. But you also don't know me and I can understand and appreciate the want to disseminate factual data and information. Educate the masses, right? I can dig it. So, while I'm sure most will find that information useful (and possibly decide against this "mod"), I also do not want to divert from the original intent of my post (which was to simply offer those that wanted to have a "cold" air intake the information necessary to do so since it comes up from time to time on the forums).

Regardless, I intend to paint mine black in some form or fashion because I am not a fan of chrome (hence me plastdipping my front grille) and perhaps enclose/shield it to some degree from the engine at some point (with the full understanding that there is still nothing "cold" about it). And word to the wise for those of you that may venture down this path, some stores (like Pep Boys from prior experience) tend to not accept returns on items like this if they've already been opened and installed...which may be the case for a majority of stores not named Wal-Mart. Hah!

Ah, I guess what I was driving at was to get a scangauge ( or similar device) so you can see the results of each modification you perform. I was not trying to insult your intelligence. My target was spectre. Sorry for that----

At least 15hp. I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on a few Ford Performance stickers. I hear they're at least 5hp a piece.
