Sport Side bars

Hey, New here looking for some info. I have a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport with grey "nerf bars" that are rusting pretty bad. I am curious if anyone knows if there are aftermarket bars that will replace the Ford ones, that are composite so they will not rust again. Anyone have a good site for parts ? Thanx in advance

The only thing I know of is stainles steel ones which are $$$. I believe Westin is who makes them. I would look into having yours powder coated. I'm sure it is cheaper & they could probably match the color you have now.

yeah mine were fine when i got my explorer but after the winter they were all rusted, i just took them off. I looked at stainless steel ones and they were pretty expensive. But i kinda like how it looks without them now.

Well i am stock height so i guess if you had a body lift you would see more of the frame without the sidebars.

All the Westin bars I've seen were only a year or two old and rusted pretty hard.

I'd try powercoating the stock bars, as mentioned. Ford forgot to clearcoat them from the factory, which is why they get rusty while the rest of the truck looks perfect.

FWIW, I've had several sets of the Smittybilt bars over the years, and eventually all of 'em will rust (except the stainless steel ones). I don't think I ever had a bar make it more than 2 years before the rust started coming through the finish. As mentioned above, you might just be better having your existing bars cleaned up and powdercoated...
