how hard would it be to put a 5.0 or 4.6 in a 02 sport trac?

5.0 would be a direct bolt in- the 4.6 will not fit without some serious fab work.

its not available with a 5.0 is it?

bump

No, but go looking for other Explorer Sport models that people have put 302's into. Eric has a 99 Sport here and a 302. You would need a donor 302 and trans from a 99-01 Explorer 4dr. Decide about 2WD or AWD before buying the trans etc. Finding a donor drivetrain is the key to that swap, the fewer parts you get as a chunk, the more expensive and slow the task will be.

Find out what the salvage yard wants which is parting out a Saleen XP8 Explorer, in MO I believe. They want to sell the engine as a whole, it has a supercharger on it(285HP). eBay had a few interior parts to sell from it, not by the yard, but they could point you to it. If the price was fair,... who knows?

i want a 5.0 4x4 sport trac. not awd is that possible?

so with the awd drive train i can manually choose 2x4 and 4x4?

No with the 5.)L trucks you could not select anything.
They were full time AWD, no switches or levers, the t case is always AWD

However some of us members here on EF have ditched the AWD t case in our 5.0L trucks and converted them to the BW 4406 low range 4x4 case

You could easily do the same thing with a Sport trac

Yes, ... if the frame rails on the Sport Trac stayed the same as the 95-01 4dr's frame. The Ranger frame narrows as it goes back past the middle. Others have test fit the BW4406 and back then didn't see it fitting.

If the BW4406 4WD is a big issue to get, do measure the inner width of the frame along the area just ahead of the gas tank. I'm starting to look hard for an electronic BW4406, the manual TC's are far easier to find, and cheaper. Good luck,

a low range 4x4 transfer case? so it only works in low range or what?

no its a 2wd, 4hi, 4low t case

Try a search man, right in my signature is a link to a thread called AWD to 4x4 conversion complete...walks you through it

I converted my 96 5.0L XLT from AWD to 4406 manual t case complete with shifter coming through the carpet and 4x4 lights on the dash working...

best mod ever to a 5.0L Explorer
