OKay after purchasing a 02 Sport trac two weeks ago, I have had a chance to dig into it a bit.
I have noticed some things and also been taught some things on this forum about the sport trac.

It has some interesting "upgrades" from the stock Gen II platform.

-First off this 2002 4x4 model has two piston front calipers, larger front rotors and pads. As we have seen in recent threads the sport trac brakes can be fitted to the Gen II ex to provide a big upgrade in braking! It will require at least 16" wheels however to clear the larger brake.

-Next I noticed the sport trac has a slip shaft steering shaft. It may be possible to use one of these shafts to eliminate the 3" body lift steering extender. Those things scare me, since I have a 96 with a 3" body lift I plan to get one of these shafts and try.

-We all know they also have the very cool white face gages and a durable center console. The interior has a nice rubber mat that would be great for a more off road minded Gen II. :)

Does anyone else know of any other parts that might be desire-able from a 01+ Sport or Sport Trac?

Did the earlier model Sport trac still have a single piston caliper up front or are they all double?

these trucks are starting to show up more and more in the junk yards so these parts are available on the cheap.

see this is why I posted this, to learn the differences, although the sport trac rotors are larger for sure.

I thought all 2nd gens had dual piston front calipers, my 98 Sport does.
yup, thats correct. Is the Sport trac caliper even different? I just assumed that the rotor was .5" larger in dia and maybe different pads.

I'm also pretty sure the steering shaft is the same. I know mine is a slip shaft, which was actually long enough after my 3" BL, but I used the steering extension anyway. Not sure why you're scared of them anyway, they're the beefiest part of the steeering shaft and don't take a whole lot of load.

I wonder if the piston sizes are different? The larger rotors would be nice -- do they make performance brakes/rotors for the sport trac?

maybe they are not so different after all....remember I am fairly new to the Gen II and my 96 does not have this stuff :)

Jefe the steering extender I have heard nothing but horror stories about and the one installed on my 96 is just plain dangerous looking. It also appears to not fit right and was hitting the exhaust manifold.

But while I am looking for Trac parts in the yards I figured I would see if there is anything else I should keep my eye out for.

Are they the same caliper? I tried to research this but have come up short.

I was goig to say I just did the brakes on my wife's sport not to long ago and I rember the fronts being 2 piston ;)

The HU's are sick and I need to buy it from you. :D

the CD tape deck is better then a regular Gen II?
Thsi 02 does not have the premium sound (no woofer) but thats okay, that will be one of the first things to go......

I have a '95 Limited with 15 inch wheels and it is equipped with double piston calipers.

I am subscribing to this thread.

I thought you all might like to know that ;)

Lloyd you are right, my 96 does have them, however the sport trac does use larger rotors.

i found one at my local yard..i just want the 4:10 gears out of it..lol

good luck w/your project.
