Hello All,

I picked up a '91 "stock" Explorer that when I started looking into lifting I discovered that it was already set up for a spring over axle conversion.

My question is, how do you mount the shocks when the springs are on top and does the sway bar just get tossed?

Thanks!

I made brackets for my shocks and welded them to the side of the swaybar mounts on the axle. you can keep the sway bar but its best to get links from an Expodition. or just throw it away, it will give more flex and not be too bad on the street as long as you dont drive like a Formula 1 racer lol

you cand youse the existing hole on the axle where the swaybar mounts thats what i did and it works great but only if you decide not to use your sway bar

Thank You

Good responses, thank you. My springs are in good shape so it sits pretty high. With 33's it's up about 10". Any ideas on bringing it back down a bit?

I like the idea of using the sway bar mount for shock mount and am working on that. I'll have to post some pictures when I'm at a good point.

I have a 4" lift kit for the front that has drop brackets and springs so I'll have to see how much taller the back is once that is on.

use a good grade eight bolt and weld it on once you put it through the hole.

Looks like I spoke to soon on the back being to high. I'm not done but it's looking like it will be pretty level and I'll end up about 6" higher with the 33's.

Carefull with using the sway bar mount as your shock mount, if you do alot of off-road eventually it can break there, I had to reinforce mine when they started bending and one side actually broke off.

Thanks, I saw someone else had made a bracket that attached to both bolt holes of the sway bar bracket and I was thinking I would do that when I get a chance.
