Starter Problem

I have read every thread about problems with the starter, I have cleaned all the wires. But when I try to start I hear a click from the starter and the relay. So two clicks at the same time. At first I thought that it was just the relay clicking but its both. So what may my problem be? I thought that if the starter made no sound than it would be shot.

it did this once the day before but after trying to start is 2 or 3 times it actually worked and was fine all day, seems like it was after sitting for a while.

It could be the starter.

Our Factory starter started to have issues.. I would turn the key and get one click. I then whacked the starter as someone turned the key and it started fine. I had to do that once every few days for about a week, until it no longer helped. I finally changed the starter and all has been fine since.

sonds like the starter binded up if it rained recently then that could have caused it. if you have had alot of rain recently then the moister in the air will sometimes get into the starter and bind it up. tapping on the starter casing a cupple of times with a wrench should be a temp fix.

the dirt and rust is from lastnight
cleaing it with baking soda and water. Got pissed off and did not wipe it off. But I hear the fac cables are ****

While you got the battery cables off and you're cleaning up...........take the battery down to the auto parts store and have it tested. Test it under load and test spec. gravity of each cell.

If you feel energetic..........take off the alternator too.........and have it tested at the same time (it will give you peace of mind).

Battery Cable Problems.............most folks I've heard, have the problem with the positive cable................rotting on the inside while the outside looks O.K.

Won't hurt to clean up the negative side and inspect for a good ground.

It's a good idea to cover the battery terminals with an antioxidant to prevent future corrosion.

Hi there, idk how to post a new thread and im just gonna jump in here… i got a 1992 ford explorer xlt auto. I had to change the starter because it was starting to stick (tap with a wrench lightly). Old starter would work after tapping making me think its the solenoid on the old starter going out. so i tried a new starter and all it does is is turn the starter motor but doesn’t engage the fly wheel. I pulled out the new and tested it by hooking it to a battery and it works, tried the same thing on the old starter and after tapping it, the old one worked too. After putting the new one in i get the same thing the starter just spins. I got the new starter from autozone with part number DL3232s. Im stumped. Any help is appreciated. Also i hope i posted in the right spot.
