Is anyone familar with Texas Laws on Window tinting?

and i think i already know the answer but what about spotlights that police use on their cars?
I see old Crown Victorias with them all the time so i was just wondering

as far as the spotlights go, i think it's the same as offroad lights, you can go only so high unti lthey cannot be turned on while driving. that's why they're called "offroad" lights. i know a guy here with a spotlight on a old 70s cop car and he keeps it off while driving, but it's fully functional.

as for tint, this should help everyone to an extent

It's better than Wisconsin's...

Wow! You're even worse than the People's Republic.

Man I miss Florida sometimes...

From Florida...
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 28% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 15% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 15% of light in.

... slightly misleading.

In Maryland SUV's can have any darkenss on the rear section.
( Hence my 5% all the way around)
but 35% on the front sides.

Either way. Use common sence. If you get pulled over at night, turn your interrior light on roll your windows down and keep your hands visible.

I think thats about the same as Tennessee law. Yea the interior light effectively lightens the tint and also allows the officer to see you.

How about Jersey? Nothing in the front :( we all see how we obey them anyway though..

Thanks for clearing that up! I had heard that about SUV tints before, but not from a source I knew and therefore trusted. Now I have such a source. SWEET!!

As for traffic stops, x2 on that. I also turn off my engine as well.

i also get my license/registration/insurance ready as well. cops around here are jumpy when you reach into the glove compartment, especially at night, lol. hands on the wheel with everything ready.

actually that is not the best thing to do.

If you are moving all around they might wonder what you are trying to put away or get out.

ya know last time i did this the cop thought i had a weapon and ran up to me with his gun drawn aswell as his partner on the passenger side. needless to say they were hostile until they saw i just had my wallet in my hand. this is not something i would do again unless they are right there watching me.

also that is why u turn your interior lights on so they can see what you are doing.

yeah, i keep my stuff all in the owner's manual folder in my center console between my seats, so by the time the cop is out of the car, it's in my lap. and i never drive with my wallet in my pocket, everything is in easy access. glove compartment has the stuff i don't want mom to see, lol. reason for the lock

Charlie

Wisconsin's better than Michigan. At least you can tint the whole front Side windows. We can only go 4" down from the top

Are you kidding me!? Theres no use even getting the windows tinted then.:thumbdwn:

Certificate Requirements : Manufacturers of film need to certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your dealer if they are using ceritified film.
Sticker Requirements: The sticker to identify legal tinting is required between the film & glass on each tinted window.
Medical Exemption

what kinda crap is this, i lived in Ct most of my life and have never ever seen any dealer install a sticker in each window no matter how dark or light the tint is. and i hate the fact it can only be 35% tint on front and back side windows....man i really miss florida now

I hate NY sometimes... this is crap.

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

What's the point of even tinting at this level... looks like I won't be doing it anytime soon.

In AZ "regular citizens" can run a light tint on their front windows. I think that's great, but what pisses me off is that the "undercover" cop cars run limo tint on all side windows and rear window.

We bought a used Toyota Corolla that had "illegal" limo tint on the front windows. At night, on unlit streets, you couldn't see a thing through that tint. We had that tint removed and replaced with legal tint very quickly.

What I want to know is how a cop can see any better than anyone else through limo tint? Maybe they have super hero vision??

There is an upside to their being able to run the limo tint. A late model car with blacked out windows is a sure give away that there's a cop behind the wheel.

Yeah the last time I did that I took off my seatbelt so I could reach the glove compartment without thinking about it. The cop came up and asked me why I didn't have a seatbelt on. I told him and he seemed to believe me, but I'm sure he could have been a jerk and given me a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt if he wanted too.

I live not far from Buff. I had my front done to match the rear - perfect match and it looks great. Cops around here rarely pull over just for tint. I done give them any other reasons pull me over. I've sat at lights next to them and so far they've never given a second look.
