Hello, and thank you in advance for any insight you may have for my project. While I was looking for some gt40p heads for my project, I found a 2000 long block for $125. I bought it, disassembled it and took it to a good friend's engine shop for machine work. He had the cam reground at Holman Moody in Charlotte, based on what I want it for. My wish is to have it tow my open trailer with my Cobra replica on it occasionally, but mainly I drive it to work. The towing up the NC and Va mountains is pretty frustrating. I'm upgrading to 24lb injectors with matching mass airflow sensor based on his advice. I have the cast exhaust manifolds to match the p heads, which is nice, since my tubular exhaust is cracked and leaking. I don't have the patience or desire to wait for torque monster headers, and the cost is more than I want to spend. I'm not looking for tire melting performance, Just hoping 347 is better than 302. It also has AWD, which I like. I'm hoping I can use my 97 intake and other hardware without any problems. I have a plug for the cast manifolds, and hope to use the 97 style EGR and all the other externals from my 97. Am I missing anything? Again, thanks!

What compression are you going to run? You will need the torque monsters at least on a 347 or your motor will be rather restricted from making the power it really can. Others have said form their personal experiences cast manifolds have cracked while towing heavy loads over long distances from the heat that is generated. Seems silly to me to build a 347 and plug it up with stock manifolds.

Compression will be 9.4 to 1. I may have to go with torque monster headers sometime after the fact. Thanks.

too bad I just sold my brand new torque monsters! i should have bought a few extra sets... but with the power your making id worry about the transfer case holding up. the awd is great for winter and snow but wont hold up to much over 300 hp id consider doing a "bw4406" transfer case swap. basically a swap from a similar year f150 and that will give you 2wd 4lo and 4hi with 2wd you will free up some extra power as well! :)

Allow $$ for tuning. Port out the cast manifolds best you can. You might want to consider an intake spacer to help low rpm response. Definitely get in line for some headers, ask them for the larger collector opening.

Turdle, thanks for your insight. I have a friend who is a Ford specialist when it comes to tuning. I may have to have that done twice, since I will try to follow your advice and get in line for T M headers. I need the truck, so I can't let it sit for who knows how long waiting for headers. I ill do the 2 things you mentioned, get it together and tuned, then the wait begins. I'm not too worried about the AwD transfer case, as I don't plan on running it hard, just wanting a better tow rig. The Cobra gives me all the performance I want, the Ex won't even come close, so I won't be wailng on it. Thanks both of you!

i have an old set of headers just laying around. you are more than
welcome to them.

a gift.....from me to you.

:)

Ok, thanks, Tenny!

Just passing thru and I happened to notice the comment about headers. I'm changing my compression to 9.5:1 and porting my heads and going to run a bottom end torque cam so I need headers. How long is the wait? Where do I get them and is the any other option? Thanks for the help

I'm sorry, I can't help you there. The headers I got were sitting around and the owner offered them to me. I paid a premium, but I didn't have to wait. Someone here with more experience with the current manufacturer will chime in soon, I'm sure. Good luck.

Well, my Torque Monster headers came in today. They are a thing of beauty! Now I'm anxious to get my 347 pieces back from the machine shop so I can have some fun!
