I am wondering about options for a transmission in my 93 Aerostar 4.0 AWD. The awd doesn't matter. I just want a transmission that will last. I have a lead on a freshly rebuilt A4LD still wrapped in the shipping material. I can get. Would I be better going to something else. 4R55,5r55, TH700r4 or???

Thanks
Tim

I mean the other transmissions are stronger. There is a thread somewhere about the bandit trucks usign a hybrid a4ld and 5r55e iirc.

Manual transmission would be the stronger choice. That's what I did with each of my vans. If AWD doesn't matter, the T5 would be a good choice.

The a4ld auto can be heavily upgraded internally using 4r and 5r parts making a very tough transmission

There are several
Places that can upgrade that auto these days

Is this rebuilt A4LD online or at a local rebuilder? They might need your old one for a core or you'll pay a core charge. They are very hard to find. You could get it, and if they don't need your old one, you could rebuild it, and save it as a spare. Any of the newer 4R & 5R will require a computer to control it since they use shift solenoids, modulated EPC & TCC solenoids, turbine speed sensor, and a DTRS.

The Guy who owns the yard I got all my interior stuff at has it.
