a friend of mine has two sony xplod speakers that said a max of 1500w (heard that sony overrates there subs) or a pair of punch subs... which should i go with.. i believe they were both 12 inch subs??

It's all personal preference in my book. Keep in mind, max ratings as opposed to RMS. RMS is the number you want to compare against.

Couldn't tell you much about the Xplod speakers but I don't particularly care for the sound from an Xplod HU. If your budget allows, go for the Rockford-Fosgate Punch speakers.

honestly i'd say neither..

sony xplod is wal-mart garbage and rockford fosgate punch is bestbuy garbage.. if dealing with anything rockford use their amps.. they make quality amplifiers but their subs are garbage.. get something good and u dont need to get to expensive. Alpine Kicker MTX its all just commercialized garbage. go with some real subwoofers.. Memphis, Digitial Designs, Fi, RE.. to name a few

the only reason im choosing between these is because im getting them cheap.. i can get the punchs for 100 and the xplods for 60 and they are in perfect condition

if you're buying from a friend, then i'd look at ebay. you can find some nice RE, soundstream, and orion speakers for about the same price. i'd take any of those 3 over the sony or punch speakers

i mostly agree with you bigboom i'd take RE or orion over sony and punch but the soundstream is kind of garbage to. its one of those iffy brands like quantum or audiopipe

soundstream amps are iffy imo. they come alive at 17+ volts. however their subs are pretty solid. i installed a pair of t4 10's in my friends celica, and they sound very nice. nice quality and everything all around. still going strong too i do believe

they could be good subs but i can't say their bad because i havent used them but i wouldnt buy them because their kind of like a no name brand. but i also wouldnt deal with any alpine or mtx or jl or kicker over commercialized garbage either and thats brand name

soundstream is definitely not a no name brand . i'd use alpine head units. but not subs or amps. i'd stay away from mtx and jl and kicker as well

finally someone smart. id use a alpine hu as well but ive been loyal to kenwood headunits as i like the aux and usb in the front for ipod. i know the ports are in the back of those but i like easier access

i dabble a bit into audio heheh. i'm about to upload some of my last few setups in the sticky thread of speaker boxes.

i've had back luck with both pioneer and kenwood head units when i had their touch screens a while back. avic n2 and a kvt-715 i believe it was. several of their single din units get great reviews tho. i'm using a temporary jvc single din till i figure out which double din unit i wanna get.

but now we're gettin off topic lol. to the OP...look at post 11

i downsized my system because of needing cash but right now im running the same kenwood double din DPX-503 great HU. and 2 15" memphis on 2000 rms. sold other stuff for my 22's

I hate punches...very cheap quality.

I would take the Sony explodes over them...the 1300 watt peak sonys though. They are very surprisingly loud for what they are...better quality than the RF junk anyways.
