In the rear i had my shocks mounted to the old sway bar bracket but on the passenger side the bracket broke though on the bottom. i bought new weld on shock mounted but they wont accomodate my shock due to the fact it comes down to the axle at an angle. I'm considering a couple of things. first I'm thinking of remounting the shock up top so the shock comes straight down to the axle but i thinking it might be more work than it's worth. or i was thinking of getting Dead Link Removed shock mounts. Dead Link Removed are the one's i have right now and don't work. Should i try re mounting the shocks or pony up the 50 bucks for new mounts?

Looks like the new mounts would work.

which new mounts? i'm looking at two different types. the ones i currently have, the 2nd ones pictured will not work unless i mount the shocks to the cross member in line with the mount. I might try and do that but i don't know if there is anything in the way, i havent gotten under the truck and looked yet.

The ones that would work with the current upper mounts. :p

The most informative and purposeful post on the entire message board. Just like this one.

have access to a drillpress? get a holesaw and re-cut the notch at the bottom of the shockmount you have at an angle.

Doug, go with the first one. They're very similar to what I have on my Sammy. I can weld 'em on for ya when you come out for the sliders.

I would go with the first shock mouts listed in your narative. This will keep the shocks at an angle. Reason being is that the shock will allow more travel without needing a long shock due to straight up and down mounting. Angled shock mounts allow more lateral stability.

Where are those shock mounts listed? I'd sure like a pair. Anything to get rid of the superlift mounts...

doug.
i asked my shop today about weld on shock mounts like the firts one and he said they break very easily. and said that he'll get me a set for 20 bucks that are strong but from what he said they seem like the second ones.

also he said he'll weld them on for me and then we'll get some measurments on sizing for the 5150s that will work for the rear axle once we get the right measurments.

he said we'll get you rear axle flexing like crazy, and your just gonna hate your ifs even more.

now all i gotta do is figure out what front shocks to run.

The ones on my Zuk are similar, and I've had no problems with them at all. The biggest difference between the ones in the pix and the ones on my zuk is that the perch that welds to the axle is just a bracket that looks like a piece of angle iron, instead of being curved to fit the axle.

I got mine from Rocky Road Outfitters. They are a Zuk specialist, but the shock mounts will work on just about any axle. They cost $20/pair.

Doug, you might want to consider using the same mounts as my Zuk.
:D

thanks for the input, i think i'm gonna try the shock mounts jeff suggested. I'll order them later this week when i get paid.

the second mounts you had on your post are a lot stronger than the first. The first mounts put the shock in single shear & it'll break eventually. Some of you out there may heve had this happen on the front lower shock mounts on I-beam Exp & 89-97 rangers. I've seen them break off many times. I-beam rangers never had this problem when the front lower shock mount was in double shear like in the earlier rangers......just something to think about

I ordered the suzuki shock mounts earlier this week. I'm hopefully going up to my friends shop next weekend to mount my new tires so hopefully i'll be able to get my hands on the welder and weld them on.
