Boy, this is the week for me to post!

Just dropped my truck off to have the front alignment stuff taken care off. 4 Wheel Parts didn't seem to think the front coils were wrong on my kit as suggested by Superlift.

Superlift Tech Support said my coils should measure 16" installed parked on a level surface from top to bottom. Mine measured 14 1/2". The tech said the 4" lift should measure close to 15" on the coils.

4 Wheel Parts said mine just collpased, that's all. Due to the places I go. Moab, etc. I've been off road a total of (4 times at 360,1 at Muenster,4 at Moab,2 at Ouray )11 times. I've had the lift 5 months now and had 8 alignments since day 1.

Is it really possible to have coils collapse that much, that quickly? What am I missing here?

Thanks again.

It is possible, just ask Paul Bredhoft. Or for that matter look at what my OME rear spring did before I even took it off-road! I guess the springs weren't properly tempered or something. I had Superlift 5 1/2" springs in my truck up until the solid axle swap. They may have sagged a little, but no big changes.

Tell Superlift how much they settled, they seem to have good customer service and they may send you a new pair.

hey rob, since we have the same kit and installed at about the same time, I decided to measure mine.

They are about 16" tall. So I'd say you either got bad springs, or the wrong springs. Either way, call Superlift/4wheel parts, and have them replaced!

Whew!

Thanks guys. I thought I was loosing my mind on this one. I'm sure that 4 wheel parts will replace the springs under some type of warrenty from Superlift. ( I'm not going to give them a choice )

I really hope this takes care of the really bad camber problem. It should I think.

And just so others know. I'm not mad a Superlift or 4 wheel parts. I am gathering information and I'm sure they will treat me right. ( Don't be afraid to modify your truck )

Thanks for your help.

Off the subject

By the way Gofast, what did you do about your tire problem?
Did you get the right ones put on???

Just thought that was funny them giving you the wrong ones.
I guess I better go out and messure my lift. I have only had it on for a couple months, but after this last weekend that should make them settle if they are going to.

I guess that is why you have trouble changing the RS9000's shocks, you don't have the full 5"s of lift. :-)
Just get one of the kids to crawl under there for you...lol

My 5.5" coils have settled at least 1" in less than 1 year. I spoke with Superlift and they will warranty all Explorer coils. The news are STIFFER though, and this is not what I want. But talk to Superlift, they were quite helpful.

Cheers

Dale

Superlift will warrantee the springs but you have to measure them first and then send them in and they will test the springs for you. They will send you new springs but will charge you for them until they receive the old ones and test them to see if they are sagged. Quite a lengthy process but at least they are willing to help.

I didn't bother with the Superlift Springs I just went out and bought the Skyjacker 6" coils. Which, by the way, have the same free length as the Superlift coils. I have not taken them off road yet but my first impression driving them on the street (tonight) is that they do not have as harsh a ride as the old ones. While the springs haven't settled yet, a quick measurement after going for a short drive show that my front end is now sitting approx. 1" higher than it was with the Superlift coils.

Tires.

Perry, I posted under the tires section about my tire situation. Basically, discount is replacing all 5 of my tires for Free and upgrading me to 35's as well. There Customer service is very good. I'll be buying tires from them for a long time.

Paul, Did the Skyjacker coils affect your front alignment at all? I was thinking that the whole geometry with Superlift was setup for 5.5" not the 6" but then again whats a 1/2" between friends. That may be the spring I need to get my camber back in line without going to huge camber nuts ( 3 1/2 degree )

Thanks Guys.

Like I said, the Skjacker 6" are the exact same measurement as the Superlift 5.5" coils. No idea about an alignment though. I have to get mine done because I also changed the radius arms and am about to do the spindle and ball joints. Just too many changes to be able to avoid it.

Here's the scoop!

Superlift has changed the coils that go in the lift kits. The new part number is #133. The old # 118. If you have the 4.0 V6 you need #133 due to the weight. My kit is roughly 5 months old and I got the part #118 coils. These coils collapsed about 1 1/2" and created many alignment problems. The new coils should work fine according to Superlift.

As usual I'l keep you updated.

Thanks Rob

Gofast,
Is the number marked on the coil somewhere?
I just put my lift in about 2 months ago. Just wanted to check the coil and see if I have the better ones.

Part Number

Perry, I don't think the number is on the springs anywhere. Check your old invoice if you have it or measure the springs while the vehicle is parked on a level surface. The correct springs should measure 16" top to bottom. If it's less then give Superlift a call a 800 551-4955. They were very good to work with.

Good Luck

Iam going throught the same thing right now. If you still have your shipping invoice from Superlift, that is where you can find the part number for the coils. I haven't decided on the new 133's from superlift or the skyjackers yet. Keep us posted on the skyjackers Paul. By the way, what are the price of the Skyjacker's? I know the Superlifts are $149.
