Supercharge/Turbo my 1996 Explorer

Ok,

I know this has been discussed all over, but here's what i can't find:

I want to supercharge/turbo my truck. It's a 1996 V6 4.0. I see all over about doing it to SOHC engines. But I have the V6 pushrod model.

Can it still be done? What mods do I need to do? Which is better? Turbo or SC?

What about emissions? I was told as soon as I do it, I can kiss emission test at the yearly inspection goodbye.

Your help is appreciated.

I did some research on those electric superchargers a while back and found out that it's not possible for an electric fan like that one to spin at a fast enough RPM to produce significant boost. So it wouldn't help IMO but I've talked to people who swear it worked on their Stang.
