Howdy. I've seen that Explorer Express sells a supercharger kit for a 2nd gen 5.0, but does anyone have a kit for a 1st gen 4.0? What options do I have? (besides swapping for a 5.0:cool: ) ALEC; please chime in. Thanks folks.

i think its BBK that has a super charger (roots style) for the 4.0. vortech has one and i think paxton does also. i know jegs has the kit you can buy.

alec will know for sure though.

Spoke to the guys at explorer express a couple of days ago thru email regarding this same question

They suggested I go with www.bbkperformance.com. The only thing is it runs on 92 octane and he said they weren't smog legal. So I think I am going to just look around longer. Besides I heard a super charger should be last on my list. You probobly have more mods than me anyways.

I'm pretty sure will have to run on premium fuel no matter what charger you get. Does your motor have high mileage? I'd be a little wary of putting a charger on a motor that had anywhere near 100k. I'd look into a rebuild or a short block first.

Please use the search feature, many days reading on the BBK and other kits.

Looks like I may be in this business soon myself.
Pardon the newbiesque question... what distinguishes a Gen I vs II vs III? Just the year, and if so, what's the breakout on it?
Thanks in advance.

From my recent trip to the dealer, I'd either have to order $$$ a special Explorer for what I'm looking for, or it's basically a needle in the haystack situation. Therefore, it looks like I just may keep Gecko and start beefing up the engine (oh, I think it will hurt) as it's a V-6 4.0 OHV :( I guess my base was 160/165hp... so it will be painful to the wallet to get it to run with the big dogs, if possible?

there were many differences between the differnet engines... however, they were based of the same meaning several big similarities... there was a v6 ohv and in late years the sohc.... all first gen had the 4.0l ohv-- second gen after 96 had an sohc available as well as the ohv, and v8 was an option as well
