I have a 98 with a TT and shackles, and it seems like the suspension is loose, there is loud clunk, like when you hit a pot hole from the front end, and like when you brake hard, and then let go of the brakes, its like the suspension shifts, its weird, Do you think that the transfer case could be loose, another think is like when you are going along at like 30 and you tape the gas, its like bump bump, its like the drive shaft it lose, and when you hit the gas it turns the ingages the gear, I heard that the torrsions go bad, but what do you think it is? This is all happening after a trip through some deep waters..

How tight are the CV shafts? Ball joints? Best set is probably to jack up the front end and give everything a firm shaking.

could it be possible that the torrsions are moving around?

Is it a dull thud through the floorboards?
It COULD be your inner tie rod ends, they start making a dull thud noise overtime. It'll happen sometimes when braking or accelerating(not constant but just when you hit the brake or hit the gas). It'll probably thud when you're turning into a driveway or some raised ground.
There was a thread a while back that someone just sprayed the inside of the boot with wd40. I just replaced my inner and outer tie rod ends and the noise is gone.

Danny, How difficult was it to replace the tie rods? I have the exact problem that you described.
Thanks,
Brent
