I see on Syncmyride.com community that they are talking about a v2.10 coming with a brand new Focus. Does anyone know if this is available on EX as an upgrade yet?

I'm guessing that is SYNC, not SYNC with MFT.

The new Focus has MFT too.

OK... Call me dumb but what's MFT stand for?

i know you guys posted last month but..... i called sync last week because i was having problems and they said there's an upgrade for my 2011 explorer and i should get it upgraded. she told me the latest version for my truck was v2.10. i said great ill make an appt. Well, i just got back from dealer and went to report a successful upgrade and to my dismay, they only upgraded me to v2.8!!!! Why didn't they upgrade me to v2.10????was the sync rep wrong, or did they not upgrade to the latest for me???

This is bad info. The latest for the Explorer is 2.8. Ford's reps are inconsistent with the info they're handing out and it's clear that they don't understand software lingo.

2.8 is a higher version than 2.1

They are wrongly interpreting 2.10 as being higher. It's not. 2.9 is higher, and then 3.0

They see the 10 and think it's higher than 8.

Nope.

They need to hire better nerds.

Also, the software versions between vehicle platforms are unrelated. Totally different systems, even though they appear and are named similarly.

2.10 is higher than 2.8. It is not an arabic decimal system like we use for math. It goes 2.8 then 2.9 then 2.10 then 2.11 and so on.

You can also have intermediate updates that would follow the decimal such as 2.8.1.

The more to the left the number change, the more significant the update. So 2.8 to 2.8.1 is a very minor update. To my knowledge, Ford does not use these minor updates, at least publicly. 2.8 to 2.9 is an true update. 2.8 to 3.0 would be a significant update - most likely with significant visual changes.

Edit: I should also clarify that 2.1 is not the same as 2.10.

So... You're saying, for example, that 2.55 is actually 49 places higher than 2.5?

Wrong.

2.10 is lower than 2.8

Your logic is off.

Don't get confused. The Sync 2.10 is actually higher than 2.1. It's just that the software for the new Focus is made specifically for the Focus. The highest for the Explorer right now is v2.8.

WOW! I'll tell you what I think.. 2.9 is comming next. As for 3.0 or 2.10 I just wait and see how Ford does it.
.Then the end of the world comes Oct. 21st and it's all relative. LOL

NO - I'm saying exactly that. You are thinking with arithmetic, not logic. 55 is 49 places higher than 5, is it not? What is so illogical about that? With software versions, the decimal only indicates what type of update and has nothing to with arithmetic.

Think of it this way - the 2 indicates the major release version. The number after the decimal number just indicates the minor release update version. so:

2.8 is Build 2, version 8.
2.10 is Build 2, version ten. and so forth.
2.55 would be Build 2, version 55. Hopefully, by then we will be on 3.0, but who knows...

(By the way, my example is actually slightly off, because 2.0 is version 1, so technically, 2.8 would be version 9. Also note, my use of the terms build and version are just for illustrative purposes - I have no idea what Ford actually calls each release)

in my opinion, i think loganfilm is on the right track.....theoretically you wouldn't go from version 2.8 to 2.10 if there were just bug fixes and not a major update it would be something like 2.8.1 otherwise it should be 2.9 or 3.0 in the future. Like I said, just my opinion. :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_versioning

check out the format under 'incrementing sequences'

it can very well be 2.8, 2.9, 2.10, 2.11 if they choose.

i actually think that is the case and the focus' 2.10 is a newer version after 2.8.
if it were an older version, they would not have put the zero at the end.

we'll see...

I'm throwing my vote behind goofydisneydaddy's interpretation. This isn't arithmetic as much as it is a progression in updates of version 2. Therefore, version 2 update 10 is higher than version 2 update 8. ;)

Ahh, no, Goofey's statements are correct. The primary and secondary versions are as he describes.

Some people would argue Sh## was apple butter. It's Ford's software and if they label it 2.10 ,it's 2.10.So be it!

That is an incorrect statement.
