Sync and iOS 6

So after a week with new APIM tonight I got a blank screen and nothing happened for about 5 minutes. Radio played, DIC displayed Entertainment Selection and station, but black screen on MFT.

Then the Microsoft "Performing scheduled maintenance" screen and everything came back.

So I guess the verdict is that when you get a new APIM the issues are still software related.

Remote start is still very poor too, have to be 10ft from vehicle to get contact.

Did the dealership run tests and determine you had a bad APIM? I got my Explorer back yesterday from the dealership. When I brought it in earlier in the week, I told the service manager about the constant rebooting (Performing schedule maintenance screen). The manager told me they would replace the APIM. When I picked up the vehicle, the dealership said they ran tests and everything passed, so nothing was done. Based on your experience, I guess replacing the APIM won't make a difference.

I showed the dealer tech the issues and without any prompting he said we will try a new APIM and he ordered it right there and then. I guess it depends on who your tech is.

I took video of yesterdays rebooting and blank screen but going back really isn't going to do anything until the next update.

I have asked Ford (through my local rep) to give dealers and customers a list of items that will not be repaired until a future update. The reason being, is customers are being subject to multiple trips to the dealership and multiple unnecessary parts replacements (in most cases) to find out there is no hope. It can't hurt to try, SGT, but don't be disappointed when the APIM does no good. There is a chance you really have an APIM concern, but if no tests were done to prove there was an actual issue, it is like throwing a dart at a pinhole.... (again, in my own opinion).

A problem in my case is the service department could not replicate the issues I was having. I guess they hooked up a laptop to the MFT system and ran tests and everything passed. He said the APIM test passed as well. So far, it hasn't rebooted itself like it was doing before all the time. Unfortunately nothing was done, but I'm not mad or anything. The dealerships can only do so much and I think unfortunately for them, it's an issue they can't really control or fix due to bad software. Hopefully the next update will be written without the use of Flash.

The tech didn't just guess at the APIM replacement. I had to show him all the previous work done on my vehicle with two Performance Upgrade installs. Then I showed him the problems and demonstrated the software bugs & system failures.

To their credit the tech stated he didn't want to waste any more of my time with a 3rd install of software so he said based on previous MFT issues with other vehicles he recommended an APIM replacement.

I agree the dealers are the middleman here and they are trying their best to mitigate a problem that is beyond their scope of knowledge and ability. The dealer can't fix badly written software. They are simply the front line.

I will just live with it until the next upgrade.

I agree, SGT! But the whole point is Ford dealers, at least ours, have not thrown APIMS at the issues that will be addressed with a software upgrade. In your case, an APIM and repai attempt was made unnecessarily, again IMHO.

After the Beta 3 update I don't seem to get anything.

Mine has not worked since Beta 3. Tried deleting the phone and repairing and that did not work, either. Last text received was July 16, 2012...

I do not receive texts after Beta 3, in fact I am no longer able to send pictures via text either since going to Beta 3.

For those with iOS 6 beta 4, look for Bluetooth Sharing under Settings/Privacy. I just read an article in PC World that says new BT functionality will be run by Bluetooth Sharing. I'm wondering if you're not getting MAP functionality because Bluetooth Sharing is off...

When you go to Bluetooth Sharing, it says "Apps that have requested the ability to share data via Bluetooth will appear here. These apps can share data even when you're not using them".

Sync is not there (probably because it is not an app)?

Nothing there in BT Sharing for me either
