Hey,

So I've had my car for a month (yesterday) and don't have 1000 miles on it yet (close but not yet).

My phone (T-Mobile, Samsung Smile) sometimes won't pair up when I start the car. I don't usually notice it until well after I'm going where I'm headed - because I keep the phone on silent so the ring doesn't interfere with the sync ring (it's quite loud and annoying).

Now - SOMETIMES, when I go to manually pair my phone (which is the only option) It will say "Bluetooth turned off. Turn Bluetooth on?" and it gives me the option of yes or no.

Bluetooth is *always* on on my phone. That's not the issue.

I just don't get why it's turning it off. Anyone have a similar or the same issue?

That has happened once to my wife. Not sure why, but all we had to do was turn on the bluetooth and it worked fine, and has since then.

FordMomof3, so how's The Jolly Green Giant, or is it the Green Hornet, or is it the Quantum Gemerald, treating you? We've blasted past 1300 miles the other day.

Thanks VinceL - I'm just surprised how *often* it does do it. Even when I turn on bluetooth when prompted, it doesn't automatically connect the phone, I have to do it manually. Weird.

We're still really loving the truck! (my almost 14 year old daughter calls it "Sebastian" - I refuse). I'm digging the Jolly Green Giant though! That's kinda awesome! So is Quantum Gemerald. I'll have to think about those!

We're at about 988 miles (ya know, with my HUGE commute to work - ha). Averaging right around 20mpg - not terrible (with that HUGE commute). My kids love it still and we're always finding a new way to do *something*. Husband did a field trip with the older 2's youth group and had 5 Teens in the car - he said it was very comfortable (one in front seat, 4 in back seats). I wish they had tried with one more but oh well.

We're upgrading the phones at the end of the month - so I'm hoping that the pairing/bluetooth problem resolves itself. I've not dug into it too much with this phone, seems silly to do so.

:)

I've got a droid x and do not have a problem with bluetooth. Always connects to MFT. Doesn't always connect first phone call but that's another story. Also my phone does not ring when connected to MFT.

With Quantum Gemerald, I was wondering how many Futurama fans would remember it, lol.

One thing I did notice about the connection issue was that my wife's phone's bluetooth was on, but the SYNC profile on the phone was not turned on. I don't know if it is a peculiarity to our phones (my wife and I have the same phone), or what. I had a loaner car a while back (a Subaru), and my phone was always turning off the profile, but bluetooth remained on.

I have also noticed that if my phone's bluetooth is not turned on (I turn it off and on as needed to save the battery) when I start the car, I have to manually connect my phone on MFT for them to link up. MFT won't simply see that my bluetooth turned on, so I assume that MFT only tries to link up the bluetooth for a brief period of time during startup of the car.

(I didn't get the Futurama reference - just like the name :))

I keep my bluetooth on all the time. Since I got my car. But even still, sometimes it will not pair my phone up. It's weird. There's no change in anything. I don't get it.

Oh and GWA - when I make a call from the car - through MFT - (via vocal commands or quick dial on the screen), it doesn't always connect the first time. Even though I hear the other person pick up the phone - it will come up with Call Ended on the screen. I can call them back and usually get them but even then sometimes I have to wait for them to call me. Its very weird.

I think you should name your EX "Kermit" :D

FordMomof3,

Here are a few things you can try:

Master Reset:

Touch MENU (GEARS).
Touch SETTINGS.
Touch SYSTEM.
Scroll down and touch MASTER RESET.

Please also reboot your phone.

Reverse Pair:

Go into your Bluetooth Settings on your phone and make sure Discoverable mode is set to always or ON.
Touch ADD A PHONE.
Touch FIND OTHER DEVICES.
When your phone shows up on the MFT screen, select it.
Type in the Pass-key of 0000 and touch ENTER.
Your phone will now ask you to enter in a Pass-key, type in 0000 and the equivalent of OK.
Both devices should now connect to each other.

Phonebook Download:

Go to the PHONE menu.
Touch SETTINGS.
Touch down arrow until you see MANAGE PHONEBOOK.
Touch RE-DOWNLOAD PHONEBOOK.

If you have Wi-Fi on your phone turned on, please turn it off. With some phones, it can cause connectivity issues.

Let me know how it works for you :)

Rebecca

cnsheets - you may have suggested the winner. My kids will LOVE it. (my daughter will likely say "I'm still calling it Sebastian" - but too bad).

Rebecca - thanks for the info. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Rebecca,

I just performed the Master Reset as per your instructions. It was terrifying :)

But it seems to have come through ok. Have to reset everything. It asked me if I wanted it to automatically download the phone book and I said "yes" - so I didn't have to *tell* it to.

I'll let you know if things resolve or not. I'm optimistic.

Thanks again for your help!

Rebecca,

I can already tell you that it, once again, didn't pair my phone. I rebooted my phone and it found it though. So I'm thinking that may be on the part of the phone. I'm not going to troubleshoot that too much though since we're upgrading soon. I'll be headed the android route and hopefully it will be ok.

Thanks again - Oh - I forgot to mention, that I made a call and it actually let it get to voice mail. Never disconnected. So maybe that will be better :)

Another update:
My daughter called me and I was in my car. I connected, it immediately hung up on her. I called her back and it started counting like I'd been connected the whole time???

Weird.

FordMomof3,

I haven't heard from you in a while. Have you purchased your new phone yet?

Hey Rebecca,

Sorry haven't been watching out here much - all the stuff that comes with kids getting out of school.

We did get new phones last Friday and so far, pairing is instantaneous. I've not had that fail yet.

We ended up with Samsung Galaxy SII - both my husband and I.

I'm having a weird MFT problem - not phone related - that I'm looking for reference to here on the forum. I"ll do a new post in a few if I don't find anything.

Thanks for checking in with me!

I know how the school thing goes! I'm glad the new phones are working better! Don't hesitate to send me a message for your other issue if you don't find an answer.
