Sync V3.0 to V3.4 Upgrade

Sorry for being such a techno pheasant but now I'm more confused.

My vehicle has v3.4 Build 20350, it must be downgraded to the previous build or 21020 wont load, I get that.

On the same USB at the same time without going to the vehicle I load BOTH 19200...and 21020 ........with both on the same USB I plug it in to the vehicles USB and it auto downgrades and auto upgrades one after another?,,,,,,,

If I were you I wouldn't experiment as of now. Possibly, you could get free maps from Ford officially if you wait a little longer.
Moreover, some guys on F150 forum discovered that there is no need to do reformat to install new maps. New maps can be installed separately, it just takes a while longer, over an hour.

Your right I just hate how poorly executed SYNC3 is and how brutal it is that Ford has such a gap when it comes to the multimedia portion of their product.

I still have a chip on my shoulder having lived through the My Ford Touch disaster so Im a little biased but pushing your customers to get updates to an OEM system by alternative means on the internet is BS

MyLink and U-Connect dont have this issue.

Now running 21098 with 2.20 Maps on my 2016 Explorer. Working perfectly and CarPlay is fast. No issues to report.

I just upgraded as well. Full pkg from 3.0 to 3.4. Had todo the full reformat version.
One bug. The rear camera in now not displaying. Its shows a black screen and a truck in the top right corner.
I assume a forscan tweak???
I did forscan the heated steering wheels and seat icons on the main screen.

Have to dig into the rear camera. May have to verify the as build settings for a later model year with camera? say a 2019?
Anyone else have an issue.
its a 2017 Explorer sport 401 pkg. So loaded up.

I did not. Never really done that before. Did about 5 upgrades(2 f150's, Ford Focus, Ford Fusion) and never did that procedure. But I will try this evening!! Will post back results. Thank you!!

Upgrade went well. Not sure what the changes are.

Realized that this weekend that it isn't perfect. When I use the steering wheel control to use Siri to play music from my iPhone it now doesn't work. It says I cannot find and music. I cannot search from the screen because it think there isn't any music on my phone.

I have had friends say that texting via Siri is not working as well.

If I go to my phone and play it works.

It worked great on the previous version.

Side note it working 50% of the time. BLurry 50% and clear 50%--It did this before the upgrade... so not a 3.4 update issue.

May have to start a new thread. Rear camera issue. Not sure if its the camera or the radio(apim)

Welcome to the Forum.
No need to start a new thread. There already is one; Rearview Camera Problems
There are others as well. I wouldn't think it is an APIM issue.
A 'Search' should always be done before starting a new thread to see if an existing one exists. It could be that the camera is starting to fail.

I have a 2019 Explorer Sport that is currently on sync 3.0.20204. I saw that people are upgrading to sync 3.4 but after updates they would loose functionality like nav would disappear or climate control functions would not work appropriately. Not sure if these issues were related to earlier build versions of sync 3.4 or because they were upgrading from 3.0 to 3.4. My question is has anyone with a 2019 Explorer Sport performed this upgrade and have you lost any functionality or have you had any issues. I also have customized some thing is my APIM with forscan not sure if anyone else has prior to updating.

Your thread was merged with this one on the same topic. According to the posts here it doesn't appear to matter which model year you have. Successful updates were done on a 2018 so a 2019 so not be any different. Just remember that V3.4 was not released for the 5th ger Explorer so there will lose warranty coverage on that system should you still be in the warranty period. Good luck.

Hi @peterk9 thanks for the reply and information. I knew it wasn’t released for gen 5 so I was hesitant because I didn’t want to lose any functionality. You do make a good point about the warranty I completely forgot I am still under warranty. So maybe once I am out of warranty I will press my luck perform the upgrade.

Lots of us with 5th gens have done the upgrade with success. I still have warranty too, but I’ll worry when I have to. SYNC 3.4 is way better than 3.0.

I have seen the videos of people who updated to sync 3.4 using cyanlabs it looks so much better than 3.0.
