I checked for Sync 3 update on Ford Owner.com, and downloaded onto a flash drive Sync 3, v3.0, 20204. I will download the file when I go out this Monday. I did not find this version on the forum when I did a search, so has anyone else done this download of this new version?

Finished the update. There is a grayed arrow in the upper right corner of the screen. When you press the arrow, it says the update is done and if you want to know what the changes were... I did not read fast enough because the screen went away after a few seconds
Ford says to unzip file after after downloading to flash drive, but I did not need to do that. Ford says it takes about 25 minutes to upload in Explorer, but took about 3 minutes.

Has anyone updated to the NA20 maps after running this update? I don’t want to upgrade to 3.4 but I would like to take maps from NA15 to NA20 for my 2017 Explorer.

If you have v3.0 then new maps 2.20 for free are only available through reformat/upgrade to 3.4. If SYNC is 3.2 and higher then it is possible to update maps only, but it takes about 3 times longer than using reformat (like 90mins vs 30mins). Otherwise, you can buy them from Ford little bit later as they are not yet available to general public.

Just upgraded to 20204
took about 15 minutes
haven't noticed anything different yet

I did the OS update to Sync 3.0 Build 20204_PRODUCT

my problem is that I can not get the maps updated, I get an error code BGMAP_ERR01

I had no problem downloading and extracting the zip files and getting the license file and building the USB dive for the map updates. I did the update as I was driving and the process was complete in about 45-50 minutes, but I got the error code at the end.

one suggestion that I found was to do a master reset and the power restart twice. that didn't work, the error code came on right away.

I called Ford customer service and the rep did not have an answer. the issue was "elevated" and I should get a call back in about a week or so. he did say that I was not the only one to have this problem.

another question I have is what is the current map version for 3.0? one place I saw it as NA 1.19 and another had it as NA 2 20.

my details:

2017 Explorer Limited
Sync 3.0 Build 20204_PRODUCT
Nav Maps NA 1 15 (currently)
Windows computer
USB 3.0 64GB drive exFAT formatted

Gary, I recently updated my 18 Sport. The maps version is NA2 20. I first updated sync to 20204. Then updated the maps to NA2 20.
On my first attempt I tried to update the maps only using my then sync build 17276 . It threw an error that sync needed updating first before the maps could be updated. Ever since I bought the car in Feb 2018 I have not been able to update sync, always saying no update available. I called Ford and lo and behold now a sync update was available. So I updated from 17276 to 20204. After that I updated the maps to NA2 20 ( from NA 1 19).
Last year I was able to update maps to NA 1 19 on the 17276 sync build. Did you do two downloads? One for the sync build, the other for the maps.

Anyway I thought I would post my experience. Good luck.

it looks like we went through the same process. I initially tried the map update first and got an error message that my system was not compatible. when I called customer service, they told me that I had to do an OS update first and then the map update. they also said that I could not have the two updates on the USB drive at the same time.

the OS update went through fine. the only odd thing is that the Ford web site still says I need to update to 20204 version. the CS rep said that shouldn't be the problem with the map update.

I saw that youtube video as well. I did the master reset and two power restarts as well. the only thing that did was reset my display settings and erase my GPS locations and history. at least it did not erase the station pre-sets, that would have been a PITA.

so far I have downloaded the map update 4 or 5 times. I even tried downloading on different computers in case there was an issue there.

OK. As far as Ford not seeing you updated there was a final step I had to do where they have you point your pc to a particular file and that confirms you updated Sync. Don't recall the specifics
Does your pc only have one version of the latest maps. Remember they don't want you pointing your thumb drive to a second one with suffix of (1) etc. So do you actually get the message that it completed the install and to remove the thumb drive? The 45-50 minutes install time is spot on. Both times I updated it was that long.
I looked at my download on the thumb drive. The syc my ride folder has 8 files:
4 x JR3T
1 x GB5T
2 x HB5T
1 x LU5T
Is that what you have?

thanks, I do have all of those files.

I made sure to delete the previous download files before I did another download so I didn't have the suffix problem.

Hi Gary,

So I found on the F150 forum all these people with the same issue. It seems a senior member called Acool has a fix but you have to pm him.
Here is what he says:

{ The "fix" works by overwriting the NAV files so you can replace them again with your install (it first breaks your navigation). Someone who shouldn't be using it (doesn't have a Nav install package in hand) might unknowingly install it. I get people PM'ing me with random unrelated errors wanting to install this fix thinking it will solve any problem. So it remains private.}

The fix seems to work for many people. This was on the F150forum.com site. Im trying my friend. I figure I might have this issue down the road so worth the effort.

I found another entry on the F150forum.com by CubsblueFX4 ( #15 7/13/2020) stating:

{ The number I called that seemed to be the most beneficial is actually a number for Lincoln, 800-521-4140. They escalated my issue and within a couple days I received an email from an 'In-Vehicle Technology Research Escalations Specialist". She emailed me a small file that I loaded onto a USB drive (along with my license file) that, apparently, erased the maps all together. It only took a few minutes for them to be deleted and I ended up with a black nav window and a "Navigation Fault" error message. I then reloaded my original map files onto the USB and just started the map installation process over. This time the installation seemed to go quicker than the first time I attempted it (maybe slightly less than an hour) and I did receive the final message indicating the installation was complete and that I could remove my USB drive. Thankfully everything seems to be operating normally and I no longer get the annoying pop-up message.

Even though it took several phone calls to various numbers, I'm thankful they were able to resolve the issue with a simple file sent via email. }

May be worth a call.

thank you for your efforts in looking into this problem.

just as a recap, I called into Ford Customer Support November 22, 2021 and they "elevated" the issue and said that someone should be contacting me in a week or so. since this was just before Thanksgiving I figured that I would wait and allow 2 weeks.

I got an email from an In Vehicle Technology Research Escalation Specialist on December 7, 2021. attached were files that would erase the map files that were on my system. I ran those files and then downloaded another set of map files. now I had to wait for an opportunity to try and update my system again.

yesterday I had a long enough trip to do the update and it seemed to take about 40 minutes. I did a restart after I parked and everything looks to be back to normal with the new map files installed.

now my system is at:

SYNC 3, Software Version:3.0
Build 20204_PRODUCT
Navigation Maps Version NA 2 20
