I'm going to a concert with my Explorer tomorrow. Is there anyway to keep the tailgate up and open without wearing out the battery?

Do the lights go out automatically after a certain time or will they stay on and drain the battery?

Thanks.

Realistically, you could either pull the fuse for the overhead lights, or somehow keep something on the switch on the tailgate to keep the lights out.

when you open the door, look at the latches themselves...push both of them closed and your lites will go out...just don't forget to turn your handle and open the latches before you close the door with your latches closed...there is a recent thread about drive-ins on here that talk about this same question...enjoy the concert....:D

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll have to search for the drive in thread.

On our '92, I only have to close the latch on the drivers side to make the light go out..

thats the same on my 91 but i thought i read somewhere that newer X's they have the switch on both sides and i'm not sure what years that started with...

i have a 1993, and i just open it, then close the latches. it just sucks if you don't remember to turn it again to release them, or else closing... just won't work, lol

or

just unplug the battery there, HA
