Teds Shed Build Thread

It never made sense to me all that plumbing for two small tanks… my 97 is still using the 97 switching valve since I heard the piece of debris clear and the dorman was not even close to fitting.
My 35” spare no longer fit under the flatbed so I went with the 38 gallon instead
My plow truck I deleted the whole switcher valve dealio and just run a single 38 gallon

I think Scott knows something here the superduty side tank is like 36 gallons excursion even more and it fits like factory and no need for switching… so you have some options

Can’t wait to see the little bronco come together
We all have 7.3 flatbed fords and v8 powered 4wd ranger based trucks ;)
It’s a good life here in Idaho

Where did you mount your spare? Mine kicked around for years in the bed, but it seemed like it was always in the way, so I got a stock mount to put it under the rear tank

I only carry spare when I’m heading outside of town and then I just strap it down in flatbed it’s a full size 35
I could mount it to the headache rack vertical behind drivers… but with all the crap I haul I usually need to move it around

Bronco ii I have a duff dual swing rear bumper works great with the 35… but I need to modify it to carry two Jerry cans instead of one

Well, I was able to get the flatbed mostly slammed together today. I made it so that the physical flatbed only has 8 bolts that hold it together, instead of tons of hex screws that strip out. On the front and rear of the boards is a 1/4" strip with carriage bolts that sandwich the boards in the frame.Threw in a new valve, 2 new filters and ran it for about 20 minutes with no hiccups. I ended up getting a dorman valve and put in a new filter in my facet lift pump. This is a good running truck, and I'm itching to get it back into action.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming. Built myself a hover bronc, using some lumberjack stands. My dad, who is just shy of 80, came over to help me get the frame pulled.

😳

Very nice!

My dad is 83 I help him with wireless printing! Hahahaha well done. We could kyak now… but the river froze solid now and winter is coming back

Yeah, I'm not going kayaking. I use that trailer for a bunch of stuff, and needed to make a dump run. The kayaks are still on there from last summer because I've been too lazy to take them off 😞

It's been colder'n a "progressive" here.

Between yesterday and today, I got the frame mostly stripped. Yesterday I pulled the wiring and plumbing. Found a bunch of holes in the tank, so I guess that's shot.
Today I busted rivets. I have a pretty easy method, but there's rivets and there's RIVETS. The passenger beam mount was riveted and it was much more difficult than the body mounts. I was cooking along until that, and it wore me out. I'll never be an iron worker

Found the VIN. It's just behind the passenger side coil bucket

Here's why I wanted to do a frame off. It's got a funky bend under body mount #3 on the passenger side

Speaking of body mounts, any suggestions for replacements? I had to cut some.

The budget builder in me says use 2nd gen dodge pickup body mounts.
They are bigger and there should be plenty of them around since everyone is parting them out for Cummins donors.....

Might as well remove the coil buckets while you're at it since we are going to build new adjustable units....

Tell me more about these dodge mounts. Dimensions, internal shell, etc. Maybe a picture? I spent too much time last night trying to find mounts on line, but all I found was a poly kit

I did remove the buckets, but the picture I too was apparently before I removed them. I'm even removing stuff I don't think I need to, just so it's easier to unbolt later, if I want to modify it. For example, the leaf spring mounts. It's MUCH easier to bust rivets right now, with no body in the way

I talked to a local sandblaster today, and he said that if I got the frame down there, he could fit me in today. While it was there, I reworked the mangled body mount I showed in a previous post, and sandblasted a bunch of small parts

I see the latest tech is lazer Blasting or ice
Blasting! I’m like shoot I can source some ice

Haha!

I kinda cringed at the quote until I talked to Scott. Turns out, the guy was right on, and since he could get me in, I figured time is money. I couldn't have done as well as he did in a week of working on it, and he only took part of a day!
