Yes thats right! It did it again. Coming home ffrom work last thursday it started sputtering when i came to a stop. I stopped at a friends house for a minute. I went to start it again, but i wouldn't crank. I waited a minute and it started but it started smoking white smoke like crazy. I immediately took it to the garage. Found out the next day that the head gasket blew. From what they tell me, the head usually cracks and the piston walls get scored=NEW ENGINE. Hopefully this won't happen. I am already on the second engine and fifth tranny. I can't afford this Exploder anymore!!! I love it to death but damn i only have 104000 miles on it.

My suggestion is contact another shop and get their opinion...in my automotive experience that doesnt seem right.

That is what I was thinking. It sounds like they are taking advantage of you. Take it to another shop without telling them what the first shop thought the problem was. Then you should find the truth

woohoo

I just talked to the mechanic where my car was at. They pulled the heads and found that there was a head gasket blown. They sent the heads to be checked out for cracks. The good news is that the pistons and cylinders are not scored!! From the info that i have gathered, the mechanic has had to replace engines in explorers due to engines due to scoring. This does not seem right to me as well as the others who replyed but there must have also been another failure that did not happen to mine because i immediately stopped driving it. While its in the shop, i am having them check the 4wd problem i am having (its in another post can't remember title). Also having the gage checked out because i replaced the temp sender due to the gage giving abnormal readings. Overheating probably occurred when the gage was not properly working.
later yall
