Rolled and totaled
I got a sweet deal on a 1994 Explorer 4x4. I have to teach my son how to replace the radius arm bushings, maybe a balljoint or 2, and replace the transfer case motor. Other than that, it's the best $700 I've spent in 30 years.

Congrats on the purchase. Is it his first vehicle?

Oh, welcome to the board. :D

Thanks! Yes, this is his first... He's really looking forward to taking it to the desert. He's been riding bikes and doing some 4 wheeling in the SOCAL desert for the last 14 of his 16 years. It's in his blood.:salute:

Same here. Well keep an eye out in the Off-Road Planning Forum and the "California Explorers" Forum for some runs out that way. We go to Truck Haven (S-22/86S) pretty often.

So much for the Explorer

Last Friday, my son rolled the Explorer and totaled it. He was fine, THANK GOD. I gave the Explorer to the people that helped him until I could get to him. :salute:

How did he roll it? Im sorry to hear about that! :(

Too fast, too little experience and too far away from what I told him to never do... He was on a dirt road in East San Diego county. It got squirrelly on him and he over corrected, hit the soft left shoulder and bounced... grabbed traction sideways, and turned it upside-down. From the looks of the road and the truck, he was doing about 50+. A more experienced driver may have saved it, but more accurately a more experienced driver would listen to his father

sorry to hear that :( I got in my first wreck as a result of inexperience but luckily it wasnt that bad. it happens to lots of us, glad to hear he was ok

It's good to hear he's OK. On the other side of the coin, things of this nature can also teach an important lesson. I know when I flipped my first car (actually an '83 tercel, lol) I learned real quick to pay more attention to vehicle dynamics. it can be a costly lesson, but cars are replaceable.
