Good info..................but the problem is, not too many people who install them really give a rat's azz. Heck, half don't know that there is a difference between kits and true HID. They just want the brightest, most annoying, headlights possible. :D

Real HID light is at 4300K. 6000K reduces light output & creates the glare 8, or 9K even more so. All these fake blue or other color "HID like" bulbs are what created this whole mess. Those are the culprit, not a true HID system.

those were "True HIDs" being used in the example... no car should be using HIDs unless the headlight housing is specified for it, even explorers with HIDs are doing the exact same thing as being shown in the picture.

HID's are super bright compared to Halogens. the so called "fake" HID (6000k+ halogen/plasma bulbs) arnt as dangerous to be using.

I have a question:

What is meant by a "halogen housing"? Do they mean the headlight housing that is not clear and looks like it has plastic cover the front?

im not quite sure, but i think its any OEM housing for cars that dont have HIDs from the factory

That's why you use projectors.

Well aren't you just so perfect. No offense dude, but your projectors are ugly. You should have just stuck with some Silverstars. Did you get projectors just so you could say "I have projectors" or can you really not see **** at night??

i was thinking of fabing up my own projectors... projectors are the shizzy!

i think husky meant projectors with HID kits... not just projectors

Yeah, projectors are nice. But projectors in some square headlight housings?? C'mon now man. That just looks ridiculous. With your '97, I say go for it, because your headlight housing don't look like bricks.

Jealousy comes in all shapes and forms. These are HID projectors, OEM off a Mercedes. How can't I see better than with halogens? Did you do an HID conversion just so you could blind other drivers and impress the ricers? Usability is more important than looks.

All I'm saying is that I wouldn't put something on my Ex that is ugly just because I'm trying to light up the road? Did you find out they were Mercedes projectors and just had to have them on your Ex? To each his own man, but I don't like them. We are all entitled to our opinions here right?? :D

In GP land, more and more people are looking into the projector retrofits from I believe BMW X5's... That was a common one if I remember correctly. Our headlights suck, and this is an expensive solution. However when used correctly, they rock! And, if any money is available to easily throw around, I'm going to look into this, and get rid of the stockers!

Sure we're entitled to our own opinions, but making personal attacks is immature. It's like me saying, Oh you want 20's on your X. Is that because all the rappers do it? They look ugly. And it's obvious you don't know usability from looks, as 8000k bulbs are just for looks.

This thread is getting off topic.
No one has asked for any opinions so keep them to yourselves.
Thanks....

jsut read that article and i agree, it is stupid and dangerous to add one of those aftermarket HID kits... and if i rember correctly, not too long ago the federal governemnt was trying to make those kits illegal, they also know of the danger it causes.... to a lot of members on this board it seems, they jsut want it too look cool, but by whose expense? the car you jsut ran off the road for blinding on coming traffic?

Good link to a thread to read. I knew about light patterns, but nothing about HID's.

I just know when someone's lights are too bright. Unfortunately, that is a large percentage of stock vehicles, and almost all auxilliary lights. I will not call them fog lights, because fog lights have a much lower and shorter beam pattern.

You cannot describe the factory "fog" lights beam pattern that way. Factory auxilliary lights project far out and up into everyone's eyes.
Night,
Don
