My neighbor took on a side job helping a buddy put a new motor in a F-150. The truck is a 2006 SuperCrew with the 5.4 motor in it. The person who owned the truck said "the motor just stopped". When my neighbor pulled the pan, this is what they found:
No, he didn't clean anything off..that's how it looked when they popped the pan. The crank and rods had to have gotten cherry red to do that kind of metallurgical damage to them. The bearings melted out...
Here's what the oil in the pan looked like. Keep in mind, this is a 5 year old motor with less than 100k on it..You're not looking at the bottom of the pan, you're looking at several quarts of sludge...he claims the oil light never came on.
