My neighbor took on a side job helping a buddy put a new motor in a F-150. The truck is a 2006 SuperCrew with the 5.4 motor in it. The person who owned the truck said "the motor just stopped". When my neighbor pulled the pan, this is what they found:

No, he didn't clean anything off..that's how it looked when they popped the pan. The crank and rods had to have gotten cherry red to do that kind of metallurgical damage to them. The bearings melted out...

Here's what the oil in the pan looked like. Keep in mind, this is a 5 year old motor with less than 100k on it..You're not looking at the bottom of the pan, you're looking at several quarts of sludge...he claims the oil light never came on.

The owner apparently ran the vehicle from day 1 without ever changing the oil or filter...We're amazed he didn't burn the truck to the ground. Probably the only thing that prevented it was any fire being contained in the crankcase..

I've had a friend who didn't like the new car he and his wife were given as a wedding gift. He didn't touch the oil except to add some once in a blue moon. It blew with 45k on it, and the in law got it fixed under warantee. Some people don't care.

damn, lol. when i worked at a quick lube shop a guy came in for a state inspection and oil change. he drives a 97 or explorer 2 door and i saw the sticker from his last oil change. nearly took a dump in my pants. 61,x.. miles over the last oil change. thought he did it himself so i asked and he said nope, just topped it off when it needed it. just to make sure i checked the history in the computer and the customer was right. i couldn't believe it. pulled the drain plug and i tell you what not even a diesel was as black or as thick as this was. the smell was terrible. i changed the oil and off the guy left. i still see him around and he's still driving it. some people just don't care

what do you mean i need to change oil in a car ........

thats kinda of silly! and i need to put air in my tires.......

what crazy world is this....

wait these things will run out of gas? where do i get this magical substance?

.......

Thats really not that bad lol, I have seen much worse at the dealership.

Lol when i worked at the quick lube place we had a guy call us up and ask how to change your oil...he lived about a block away...30 minutes later he comes in...8 quarts of oil....empty trans....he actually drove the car from his house to us and asked why his car was having trouble changing gears haha. Gotta love some of these people!

as for the oil change...he ended up paying us to do it again..haha.

someone asks me about when im gonna change my oil i say.... CANT WAIT!

so it turns out it wasnt a thrown rod it was a big stinkin mexican rat... true story

Well, whatever oil it had in it from the factory did a pretty good job if it took that long before that kinda thing happened.

I wonder how much longer it would have gone with a synthetic?

Kind of a shame to ruin a motor, but still, it's pretty interesting stuff from a real-world-testing perspective in terms of how long it took and what kind of damage results.

I have a friends uncle that buys new cars never touches them! When it stops he just buys a new one!!! I couldn't believe that people dont take care of there investments!
