Last week I got a ticket for having my 2 front side windows tinted. I can either pay the ticket or take the tints off and have the ticket go away. I really like the tints but I can't really afford to pay the ticket right now...its $400....what do you guys think I should do. What would you do if you were in my shoes. Its not that I don't have $400 but I am going to Law School in a month and need to start saving my money! (Damn X's...take up all our money! lol)

how much will it cost to retint? take the tint off, get the ticket waived, and then retint... should be cheaper than paying $400 for the tickets

agreed, then retint with a legal level of tint.

Ouch. Sounds like they are serious about tint over there. I had one level below legal on my black 88 5.0 Mustang (it looked really sweet) and I got only a $50 dollar ticket. Of course I paid that. But it only cost me $150 to get them tinted. Plus one more day out of my life. No biggy.

But I agree. The coolness factor is very high with the dark tint, but i'd go with the legal level. ...unless you can swing a doctors note that says you need the tinting. ;)

Yeah the rules in Michigan suck! No level of tint is allowed on the front windows without a doctors note. My friend suggested I get them taken off and then go and get them re-tinted.

I suggest you take the tint off and leave it off. Just because you take it off, wave the ticket and then retint won't make the cops ignore it.

tint tickets are only 100 here in indiana

i've gotten one before abuot 3 years ago for my 89 mercury cougar tint..

and got a warning in january on my explorer, the cop was behind me on the highway at a stop light, mind you in his cop CAR, and he said that his headlights were hitting my window and he still couldnt' see though it....
*COUGH COUGH* looking for an easy ticket i think thats what was going on in his mind

$400!! $100!!! Man that's expensive! The only ticket I got was in FL, & that was only $45. 15% limt was 30%

I have been warned twice for my front two windows, which are 15%. I think it is silly for cops to enforce this law. I know laws are laws, but no matter, tint isn't that big of a deal.

I have pretty dark tint on my fronts. If I were to be pulled over, I'd roll it down as quickly as possible and let the guy know I wasn't holding a gun or whatever. Cops have a tuff time and I don't want to make them uneasy if they can't see inside mine. I really think that's the problem they are trying to eliminate. I've had it on 3.5 years and no problems yet.

My buddy took a picture of his truck before he got his tints on. Whenever he gets a ticket he brings the picture in and the ticket gets thrown out. I thought this was a pretty good idea because you save some money from not paying the ticket but he loses almost a whole day of work which costs him some cash. It is too much of a hassle I think.

Yeah I have to actually bring my truck in so they can look at it. I had a friend who took an identical car w/out tints and showed it but you can go to jail for that.

I don't think cops should pull you over solely for tints. If they pull you over for speeding and see tints they can write that up but you gotta be a dick to pull over someone not doing anything wrong just for tints

THanks for everyone's comments and suggestions.. NOW: DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REMOVE TINTS WITHOUT MAKING A MESS OF THE WINDOWS? I CAN PAY $50 TO GET IT DONE BUT ANYTHING TO SAVE SOME CASH!

GR899V8 knows his stuff. Cops put up with too much crap to have people like us givin' them extra stress.
You get pulled over roll your window down and trurn on your interior light. Yeah , some cops can be a pain but look at what they do for a living. Putting their butts on the line day in and day out . They don't need the agravation from us.

Good point but still no harm in tints in my mind, let it go...I may be wrong...oh well.

Actually i did roll my window down and he told me to roll it back up!

I worked with a guy that had tinted front side windows in his Firebird. The cop pulled him over, and ripped a piece off his front window, and told him that it was illegal to have them tinted.

The guy was going to try to counter the police in court saying they "Damaged" his property.

This is a guy that found out it was leagal to have 12 inches on the top or bottom of his windshield, and then tinted both the top and bottom, leaving about 6 inches in the middle untinted

I have 15% all around on my truck... and thats 15% on top of the factory tint in the back.. so you cant see anything in the back of my truck... but as far as getting pulled over for tints... i have never had a prob... 3 cars and all tinted... but i do use my head if i get pulled over for anything... i roll my windows down and i put all my lights inside on so the cop can see me and what im doing... you guys are right... they should not bust your balls for tint... but ya know what? how do they know what ur doing if they cant see you... and next week you could get pulled over and have a gun... and them pulling you over for the tint this time might save a cops life... ya know? they do put up with a lot of ****... and yes there are some bad cops.... but what they do is a hard job... it really is... my dad was a cop for 35 years... so i know.. so next time you get pulled over just rember.... its more work for them then it is for you.... they have paperwork at the end of the night... you go home...

just my .02

get a docters note : find a car club im sure there will be a docter there whit a love for cars make him your friend.
get it . come on and you are going to law school. you know one hand washes the other.

Guys check your local laws. In most states they cant give you a payable fine unless there is something else wrong that you did.(secondary offense) In North Dakota and Delaware both its that way. I have been reading and I would say about 90% of the states are like that. Same with headlights and tail lights being out, its just a warning unless somehting else is wrong.

I'm going to be getting my front windows tinted to match the back factory tint. I read on here that 20% matches perfect. I live in NY, is that legal? A guy down the road from me has a NICE Dakota R/T with DARK windows and he said he just rolls his windows down before the cop comes up to the car. He gets pulled over about once a week for his exhaust, but the cops never say anything about the tint or his totally clear tails... Just that his exhaust points down at the road (the truck is lowered 4" so the tips are literally 3" off the ground) and with 3" pipes and flowmaster 40's is feels like an earthquake.

I just looked it up and you can not have any tint at all unless it was factory. The strictess state by far.
