ticking noise during load when hot

Hi, my -94 explorer makes a 'ticking' noise when it is under load and the engine is hot. It feels very week. When I'm just cruising along it is OK. The chech engine light comes on as I accelerate 'hard' or when I ask for more speed. Any tips?

im not an expert on that kind of stuff...but it could be the clutch fan?

Get the code checked out to see what it means. Go from there. It could be a great deal of things. I'd suspect bad plugs, wires, or coil pack.

explorers are known for that ticking, its caused by a sticky lifter.

As for it being weak... it is an explorer afterall.
