timing chain

I need to replace my timing chain tensioner. In the Haynes manual it says you need to remove the engine to do the job. Can anyone tell me if this is true or if it can be done with the engine in the truck.

You can replace the front Cam chain tensioner with the engine still in but that is it. All the front timing gear and especially the back timing gear the engine need’s to be pulled out. One of the resins it is such a expensive operation.
