Tire Sensors

I have a 2010 XLT, the "tire sensor failure" message has come on 3 times in the last 2 weeks. I deflated and inflated each tire one at a time and verified all sensors triggered the "low tire pressure' message except for the left rear, I am assuming that the left rear is the faulty tire sensor.

Can someone tell me what aftermarket sensors can I replace it with that will still work with the other factory sensors. My tires have the rubber valve stems.

Thanks Tech by Trade, So all I need is this sensor and a retrain tool?

If I take it to a tire shop to replace just the sensor would it be that easy or would they want to do their own diagnosing?

You should take it to a shop and have them pull the old band out, install the new sensor. You could break the bead and install it if the old sensor is completely dead but you will need a balance on that tire anyway or you could end up with a vibration and cupping on the tire.

I purchased the original sensor on Ebay for $25 each if i'm not mistaken, then I replaced the battery in the original one and did the same for the others. You can just buy all 4 sensors or as many as you need in in your case. Then when I had my tires replaced, I asked to just have 1 minute with each tire to replace the sensors. If you have original equipment on the rim, its real easy to take off the old sensors and install the new ones. Just use a flat head screw driver to pop out the push clips that hold the locks, then pry out the sensors. Replace new ones in reverse.

Keep in mind that you need to program the new sensors with a remote control type tool that can be had for about $30-50 on ebay as well.
