My mountaineer is having problems burning up plug wires on the drivers side header. The first two sets only lasted a few month apeice. But the last set I got lasted a little over a year. I bought the heat socks and wraped pug wires up the best I can. It helped but not solving my problem.

Any body else have issues whith this?

Whats the best set of wires I can get?
Ive been geting cheaper ones from advance auto, because im afraid to buy better ones if there just gona keep burning up

sounds like you might have a clogged cat and its making your manifolds get hotter than normal and burning the plug wires. i had accel 8mm wires on my 5.0 bronco and they performed really good.

Well I removed the first two cats. And when I took them off they looked pretty good.

I also have a custom one peice tmh for drivers side that bob made for my body lift to clear the steering shaft.

tmh? torque master header? if i were to guess the cats that would get clogged would be the first pair but thats just a guess

Ya torque monster headers.
I would think that to about the cats.
No, wait I removed the rear two cats.

i mean the 2 cats closest to your headers
if the headers are getting hot enough to burn plug wires i would imagine you could see them glowing red hot which would be a sure sign of a clogged cat

Its not actually burning on fire, but the boots are beting hot enough to split the boots and ruin wires.

yeah i gotcha but the headers have to be getting too hot and something in the exhaust is causing it. are the headers ceramic coated? i dont know much about the tmhs i have a 4.0 lol

Yes, they are ceramic coated. How can you check for a plugged cat. Befor the plug wire went bad it ran great. And its always cylinder number 6

410fortune's routing

i wouldnt see how the routing would matter if it is doing it at the plug boot. and do a seach ive seen it before just cant remember how to. do you still have you stock cats? and by burning up the wires do you mean the boot is getting brittle and starts arcing or is the actuall wire going bad?

My drivers header is different then those. And I used the stock wires withe the metal sheields and the heat socks. I routed them as far away as I can. I will have to see if I can take a pic to show you. ita always cyl 6 that gets the worst this is gona be my fourth set of wires in about two yrs

have you ever pulled the plug and checked it? are any of the other wires showing wear or just cyl 6?

Ok, try this
Remove the metal shield and thread the sock all the way down the boot. Maybe the metal heat shield is actually too close, and conducting heat to the rubber.

The header being different puzzles me. Please take a picture and upload it to photobucket so we can see.

Yes the boot cracks and arcs out.

I used the stock heat sheilds, then covered those with the socks. You think I should eliminate the metal sheilds? But yes I wont be able to get a pic till tom. But yes when I ordered my headers I talked to bob and he said he was gona build me his first set for with a body lift.. The drivers is the different one its a one peice and is bet to go around the steering shaft with the steering extension for the body lift

Magnacor makes the best insulated plug wires bar-none, along with a life time warranty. If those don't work (with heat socks), then nothing will.

I will look into the magnacore wires, what have you hurd about the ceramic coated boots?

And plug wire six is always the one that get the worse, seven shows brittleness.
