2002 Explorer XLT
Just bought this 2002 XLT and the door ajar light was always on. Finally got the connectors off the door sensors and put paperclips in, light still on. Got about as far as shown in the pic . . . and the light is off. No amount of jiggling has recreated the problem. Hate to put it back together without fixing it, but out of ideas.

The door ajar switch in the latch, is normally closed, opens when door is shut. Being disconnected, (open), truck thinks door is shut. Bad switch.

Step one was disconnect the switches and remove them from the equation by closing the circuit with paperclips in the connectors. Working on the driver's side first, the light remained on while looking for a bad wire. No joy. Moved to the passenger side. At some point while looking for a bad wire, the light turned off. Most likely I jostled something back into place. But further jostling did not turn the light back on...

My similar problem turned out to be a couple of broken wires in the rubber boot between the body and the driver's door. For a while you could slam the driver's door, wires made a temporary connection and the light would go off, then I guess the wires broke all the way and the light stayed on all the time.

I went all over the wires in the doors and at the hinge. Couldn't find a problem. Decided I was insane (like Hamlet) and checked the jamb switches. The driver's door switch not closing the circuit. So I'm replacing the switch, putting it all back together, and hoping for the best.
